Most people have heard of the well known show “How I Met Your Mother”, and after learning about the reboot, lots of fans were worried about how it would do the show justice, or if it would be a complete flop as a follow up. In my opinion, this show was really well done! It’s a similar premise to how they filmed the original series, but with a modern day twist added. Let’s get into the logistics, and what to expect coming next!

This show takes place in New York City and there are lots of similarities between this show, and how they produced the original show. For one, they still use Ted’s apartment as one of the primary locations of the shows and two of the main characters live there. There are references back to How I Met Your Mother in some of the dialogue as well which allows the viewers to make an easy connection between what they’re talking about in this show, and how it was portrayed in the original. This season also included a guest appearance from Cobie Smulders (also known as Robin Scherbatsky) in one of the later episodes in the season!

Some people didn’t like the similarities in the show and how the producers decided to make so many references since this reboot is roughly 8 years after the original show was produced. The common thought when this show was originally announced was that it would be its own story line, and personally after seeing the first season I thought that the references and relations between the shows were done tastefully, and it didn’t seem like the producers were trying hard to make it a copy of the show. How I Met Your Father had a similar storyline with friends living in the city and each one trying to make it with different jobs and aspirations.

Most of the reviews of this show are low, seeing as it is a reboot of another show that was already so successful this can be expected. Thinking about the show separately from the original is the best way to watch, and not trying to make a comparison between every event that occurs in these episodes and how things were filmed originally. Similar to when the show originally aired, the episodes were released on Hulu each week instead of releasing the entire season at once. For the people who did enjoy the show, it’s been renewed for a second season with more episodes than this season held! The best part? Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger so you have to go back and watch once the new season is here!

Reboots are hard to pull off, especially with shows that are so well known and have had great success previously. In my opinion this show was done really well with how they made a story of their own with a similar premise to the original. I think I’ll still always prefer How I Met Your Mother, but this show was a good twist with refreshed ideas!
