How to have an Amazing Galentine’s Day with your Siena Gals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

Whether you have a boyfriend, are post-break up, or are currently “forever alone” (you won’t be alone forever, I promise), Galentine’s Day is an important annual holiday. Traditionally, this is a girls-only holiday celebrated on February 13th.

Gal Friends are a wonderful, possibly essential (for many) aspect of social life. Galentine’s Day is a great way to show your Gal Pals how much you love and care for them. Don’t worry if you hate Valentine’s Day, this will be a way to savor the weekend.

To have the perfect Galentine’s Day, here are some suggestions. I’ve taken the liberty to separate my suggestions into budget-based possibilities.

MONEY IS NO ISSUE:

Maybe you have some extra money from the Holidays. Maybe you worked your butt off over break for this very moment. The sky is the limit!

Classic: Dinner and movie

This is the traditional Valentine’s Day date option. Dinner and a movie, but with your gals! Treat yo’ selves. Go to Crossgates or Colonie Center and pick a nice place, shop ‘til you drop, and go to the cinema. You girls are worth every penny.

Classy: Dinner and Dave & Buster’s

This is a possibly more expensive option than the previous (depending how flousy you are with dough). Go for dinner somewhere at Crossgates and play some games. You could even make a contest with your friends and see who can get the most tickets. Here’s the website to the one at Crossgates: http://www.daveandbusters.com/

Wild: Rollerblading and whatever else the night turns into

Head over to Guptill’s Skating Arena down route 9 for a nice night of rollerskating.

$8 for Admission (no time limit). $4 for Skate Rental

Here’s the website for more information: http://www.guptillsarena.com/index.html

Then who knows, get some ice cream, eat at Guptill’s, or go to HalfApps (Applebee’s has half-off appetizers after 10pm). Don’t count calories tonight because you worked them all off from skating!

MINIMAL BUDGET:

Maybe you have $20 bucks to your name. Maybe you are going away over Spring Break and need to save for that. This may be a more reasonable option for a GNO.

Classic: Netflix & Pizza

Obviously one of you needs a Netflix account (or at least a password to someone’s) in order for this activity to run smoothly. Netflix gives you the option to watch something totally random (and possibly awful) or something atrociously romantic.

As for the pizza, there are many options in the Siena-Area.

If you’re feeling fancy check-out Crispy Basil: https://crispybasil.ordersnapp.com/home

Or if you just want some normal pizza Paesan’s or Inferno: https://infernopizzeria.ordersnapp.com/home

Classy: Wine & Dine

Have a simple dinner with your girls somewhere reasonable like 76 Diner or Yang’s down the street. The wine is optional, depending on your preferences and beliefs. Chow down at the location or order-in. You’d be surprised how many places deliver around here!

Wild: Copious amounts of Junk Food

I think this one is self-explanatory.

ABSOLUTELY ZERO DOLLARS:

This is where my life savings stands. Maybe you just went abroad. Maybe you’re just really bad with money. This is a great option .

Classic: Casey’s & Chill

Zero Dollars? No problem. If you and your friends live on campus, you’re required to have a meal plan. We might as well use what we are already paying for, right? Head over to Casey’s and use as many swipes/bonus bucks as it takes to fill your stomachs! Then head back to one of your rooms and pig-out. Honestly, just some food and good company can go a long way after a rough week.

Classy: Valentine’s & Secrets

Grab some paper, scissors , markers, & have at it! Make some cute cards for each other or mutual friends. It’s something crafty and sweet to do with your friends at school. (Abundance of candy, optional)

Wild: Dance Party

If you do not do this already, I highly recommend a huge dance party with all your friends. Blast some tunes and jump around. It’s one of the best ways to bond with those around you but also to release some unwanted energy.

OR COMBINE THEM ALL!

Sometimes we forget or take our friends for granted. Use Galentine’s Day as a way to celebrate those friendships!
