A Day in My Life as a Siena College Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

When I was a Senior in high school thinking about what college life was going to be like, I often wondered most about what a typical day would look like in my upcoming future. Even though every student, major, and school are different, this is a little glimpse into a normal day in my life as a business student at Siena College.

A little background first: I came into college as a Business undecided student and Sophomore year I declared as an Accounting major with an Information Systems minor. After declaring, my classes and interests got much more specific and it guided me into joining different clubs and being a part of new organizations. I am in a business fraternity here on campus, Delta Sigma Pi (DSP), and that has really helped me broaden my business skills and make so many amazing friends. Events for DSP typically happen on the weekends, but occasionally during the week we will have a meeting or interviews for the new members. So keep in mind every week and day can vary tremendously, however below I am going to walk you through a typical day I have.

I am a morning person, so usually I try to register for mostly morning classes, because then it gives me my afternoons free for whatever I might have going on that week. I usually wake up around 7:30-8:00 a.m. and begin my first class shortly after that. After class I usually make something for breakfast and just take a few minutes to relax and clear my mind for the rest of the day. My morning routine is definitely very important to me because I notice that when I take a few extra minutes to take care of myself I have an overall better day. Typically my accounting classes are in the 8 a.m.’s so a little something I like to do on a quiz or test day is instead of eating a muffin or rice cake in my room, I’ll go to the dining hall and get an omelette. I find that by just fueling your body and taking a breather from a quiz or exam can go a far way for your mood the rest of the day.

Usually I have one or two more classes in between breakfast and lunch. At lunch time usually some friends and I will go to the dining hall and all debrief about our days and the current stressors or excitements. This is one of my favorite times of the day because for 20-30 minutes my friends and I can just take off mind off school and enjoy each other’s company. Following lunch I usually have one more class or none depending on the day.

Following my final class of the day, I either will go to the gym, do a workout video in my room, or just take a Netflix break for an hour or so. I find not that diving straight into homework and studying after classes adds to my stress and doesn’t allow me to just relax for a break. This is such a nice part of my day, because it is some time in my day to catch up on my favorite podcast or show at the time and enjoy it.

For the rest of the day, the homework grind continues. Usually taking a break for dinner around 6:30 with my friends and roommates. One of my favorite things about my friend group is that we all enjoy spending an hour together at dinner catching up and laughing together. Some nights it’s a shorter amount of time, for example midterms or finals week, but it’s nice to allow ourselves to take a break for an hour and be with each other.

After dinner I usually do more homework, shower, and then finally go to bed. Again, a routine at night can really help your body destress and relax, and for me at least it is a crucial part of having a good night’s sleep to be able to wake up early in the morning and continue the rest of my week.
