Her Campus Siena: How did you get to Siena?

Brother George: I came to Siena in 2015 to do a year long internship as a part of my formation program with the Franciscans.I wanted to experience what it is like to live amongst college students on a college campus, as well as with other friars. That year, I worked in the Chaplain’s Office and Franciscan Center for Service and Advocacy. I also joined a few student clubs: LUNA, Brazilian clubs, and Siena for Life. Also, I lived as a Friar-in-Residence in Plassman Hall. An unexpected opportunity at the Damietta Cross-Cultural Center gave me the chance to stay.

HC Siena: Why Siena?

Brother George: The Holy Name Province, the province I’m affiliated with with the friars, are associated with a few colleges…I felt Siena would be a better fit for me. The environment is very friendly and positive. It seemed like most people genuinely liked it here and going to school here. Also, the Friar community was very welcoming and kind. I don’t have a background in Education, [but] I felt….[this] would be a great way to meet students and support them somehow.

HC Siena: What drives you? What keeps you going?

Brother George: My faith and trying to live with integrity.

HC Siena: What do you do to center yourself?

Brother George: Prayer. Coloring. Walking.

HC Siena: Alright, my last big question, why do you think we are here on this Earth?

Brother George: I will speak for myself. Why I am placed here on this Earth, is to follow the intention God has placed for me, which I see as following the example of Jesus. This means: Being kind. Living with integrity. Building bridges. Helping those individuals who need it around us in whatever way I can.
