2019 Fall Fashion Trends for the College Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Siena chapter.

With New York Fashion Week just having ended, it’s time to start stalking the runways for style inspiration for the fall season. Instagram fashion accounts and influencers have been on the ball with flicks of delicious sweaters and ankle boots, and we can’t wait to get a taste! Although most runway looks may be too flashy for a casual school day, fragments of the styles can be taken and easily incorporated into your outfit for an instantly updated, trendy look.

Here are some trends to be on the lookout for this fall!

Hair Accessories

Pearls, rhinestones, and lucite could be spotted from a mile away in any it-girl’s locks in the form of barrettes and hair pins this past summer. The trend trickles into the fall in the form of not only barrettes, but padded headbands as well. Styled the right way, a hair accessory can easily jazz up a simple outfit!

Acrylic Earrings

Missoni and Dior debuted stunning masterpieces on models’ ears during Fashion Week, and a way to recreate this look as a college student is to rock acrylic earrings with a minimalistic outfit. Bold earrings are an instant confidence booster, and are bound to get you compliments!

Cardigans

With ultimate coziness much needed in the windy days of autumn, this next trend is one I know I can get behind. Cardigans are back in style, especially button-downed, bright colored ones. Throw one on over a white tee and jeans, add a pair of heels, and transform your look just like that!

Animal Print

Zebras, Tigers, and Cheetahs oh my! Once highly resented, the animal print trend has returned with a classy vengeance. Prints can be everywhere from sweaters to scrunchies to jeans. Try incorporating an item with an animal print into your wardrobe, but be careful not to mix prints!

Straight-Legged Jeans

Perfect for today’s college student, this flattering cut not only makes you look put-together and chic, but also is super comfortable. Pick up a light wash for the fall, and pair with anything from tee shirts to sequin blouses!

Puffed Sleeves

Who knew this 80s trend would make a return on 2019 runways? As disliked as puffed sleeves once were, they have made a rampant comeback and are highly prevalent in modern street-style. For a sophisticated look, allow a puffed sleeve top to be the highlight of your outfit as you pair it with simple jeans and booties or heels for a day to night look.

Organza

This last fall trend gives us major Cher from Clueless vibes, and everyone will be rocking it this fall. This sheer, mesh-like material has been everywhere from the runway to stores like Zara, which stock several options of organza tops and dresses. Since the material is sheer, an organza top could be styled with a cute top peeking through beneath it for a unique outfit.

2019 seems to be looking really well in the fashion department!
