How to Get Back on Track with Your Goals

By: Laura Binczak

Now that I am just a few months’ shy of graduating, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to stay focused on the goals I have set for myself this year. Each morning I wake up feeling more and more anxious about my future but that is short lived once I realize that college is not over yet!

Over the past week, I have found myself thinking a lot about my goals and what I can do to get back on track. After thinking long and hard about this, I came up with a few tips that I know have helped me over the years to achieve all the goals I set out to accomplish.

Make a List of Things You Have Already Accomplished

Sometimes we take things that we have already accomplished in our lives, for granted. We don’t realize all the amazing things we have already achieved because we are so busy thinking about all the things that we need to accomplish. Last year, I made a list of all the things I have accomplished in my life and by doing this, it helped me realize that I can do anything that I set my mind too. It also gave me the confidence and drive to work harder in the future!

Do Things that Make You Happy!

Anytime I find myself getting upset or frustrated, I make time in my day to surround myself with things that make me happy (Pedicures, puppies and chick-fil-a, just to name a few). If I’m ever in a funk, I will make time to hangout with friends or maybe treat myself to something nice. When I am happy, I can accomplish so many things!

Try to Accomplish Smaller Goals First

If you read my “Getting Healthy” tips and tricks post from a while back, one of the tips I shared was to set smaller goals for yourself in order to help reach your overall goal. By taking things step-by-step, it can feel a little less exhausting and as a result, you can get more tasks completed.

Take Some Time for Yourself

Instead of going out one weekend with the girls try staying in and taking some time for yourself. I try to do this at least once a week, being alone for a few hours or even a day can help me revaluate my life and my priorities. It helps me put the things that are important to me back into perspective.

Surround Yourself with Positive People

I don’t know about everyone else but the people that motivate me the most are my peers. When I’m sitting in class, I hear other students talking about applying for internships and getting involved with different groups on campus all the time. This gives me motivation and inspires me to work harder in everything I do. There are so many students on campus who have accomplished so many great things and I don’t think they realize that they are inspiring others! By surrounding yourself with others who have the same mindset and goals can help you a lot in the long run.

I'm Nicole! Nikki, Nic, anything you want to call me really. I'm from south-eastern Pennsylvania and I love life and beauty. Whenever I'm not writing or taking pictures for my blogs or social media accounts, you can find me (hopefully) at the beach surfing, traveling, making new friends and seeing new places. I'm in love with people I've never met and places I've never been to. I am currently a Senior (!!!) at Shippensburg University, majoring in Communications Journalism (focusing in Public Relations) and minoring in Psychology. I would love to work for a PR firm with advertising, event planning and perhaps a chance to travel. Thanks for reading!! - Nicole
