5 Simple Steps to Make Your Fall Makeup Stay All Day!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ship chapter.

Want to learn how to keep your makeup looking incredible all day like YouTube celeb MannyMua?! Check out this article:

It’s that time of year again – sweater weather in the morning, and bathing suit weather in the afternoon. If you’re like me, wearing a full face of makeup in the summer is not in the question, but for times like these, you have to improvise.

Now, you’re probably wondering why you would want to take any makeup advice from a freshman in college. I started experimenting with makeup when I was nine years old, and the rest was history. I started working with a proclaimed makeup artist who was known for her work in the drag world in LA, and I currently have my own makeup channel on YouTube. For me, these makeup tricks I am about to show you work best for those early September and October days where a little sweat can still come through, and you can clear it up in the most chic and affordable way!

1. Invest in a setting spray.

Drug Store: NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray

Price: $7.99 at UltaBeauty.com

*If you want to go all the way: Travel Size Urban Decay Deslick Makeup Setting Spray

Price: $14.00 at UltaBeauty.com

In my personal opinion, NYX’s Matte Finish Setting Spray is just as good as Urban Decay’s Deslick Makeup Setting Spray. If you’re an oily girl, like me, I need a lot of spray, so I use UD’s only becomes it comes in a big bottle. You dry skin ladies – go with NYX!

2. Use a primer.

Drug Store: NYX Tea Tree Balance Primer

Price: $12.00 on nyxcosmetics.com

If you want to go all the way: Kat Von D Lock-It Featherweight Primer

Price: $32.00 on Sephora.com

Tea tree extract is a great component in absorbing that excess oil your face creates during the day, so that is why I included this primer from NYX. Kat Von D is known for her tattoos and artistic capabilities, so it was no surprise to me that her makeup line was the toughest yet. This primer will not budge on you throughout the day, but I would definitely try the Tea Tree Balance Primer by NYX before you invest your money into Kat Von D!

3. Wash your face (DAILY) with a deep cleansing face wash.

Drug Store: Pore-Fect Bar by PerfectlyPosh

Price: $10.00 on perfectlyposh.com

If you want to go all the way: Purity Face Wash by Philosophy

Price: $36.00 on Sephora.com

Both products are equally as great, causing my heart to be torn in two different directions. I had severe acne during my high school career due to all the makeup I was exposing my face to, and Purity cleared it up instantly! But, on the other hand, the Pore-Fect bar has a gentle, soothing effect on the skin, leaving you feeling fresh and rejuvenated. The choice is yours, ladies!

4. Longwearing foundation (Matte or Waterproof)

For Oily Skin:

Drug store: L’Oreal Infallible 24 Hour Foundation

Price: $11.99 at a local Target

If you want to go all the way: Make Up For Ever Face & Body Liquid Makeup

Price: $40.00 on Sephora.com

As an avid YouTube watcher, I saw MannyMua use the L’Oreal Infallible foundation and rave about it over the summer. To my surprise, it is hands down the best drugstore foundation I have every used. it didn’t break me out (which happens constantly due to sensitive, oily skin) and looked flawless on my face. The Make Up For Ever foundation is 80% water, making it waterproof for those hot July days where you want some coverage but not enough to clear up a huge red pimple on your face (that’s what concealer is for!) My beauty secret? I mix both of these foundations together to give the best lightweight, waterproof, and full coverage foundation mixture there is.

For Dry Skin:

Invest in a dewy foundation:

Drug store: L’Oreal True Match Lumi

Price: $12.99 on ultabeauty.com

If you want to go all the way: Laura Mercier Moisture Supreme Foundation

Price: $48.00 on Nordstrom.com

These foundations I found from Jaclyn Hill videos on YouTube. I do not have any personal experience with these foundations, due to being a huge oily mess almost constantly, but if Jaclyn Hill told me to do something, I would probably do it. (AKA these are top of the line for dry-skinned ladies!)

5. Use a moisturizer.

Drug Store: Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer

Price: $18.99 on ultabeauty.com

If you want to go all the way: Murad Oil Control Moisturizer

Price: $39.50 on Sephora.com

I have had experience with both of these moisturizers, and both of them take the cake for the best moisturizers I have in my collection. The Murad moisturizer smells like chlorine, but definitely helps keep my makeup on during the day.

Cetaphil is the best drug-store skin care line on the market (in my opinion), and you can never go wrong with thier products!

With all these tips, I hope everyone can get through this awkward weather time we all loath, and keep that makeup looking fierce!

Biographies are always the worst to write, because if you glamorize yourself, you're considered vain. If you talk too little about yourself, it doesn't satisfy the readers needs. My name is Rachel. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candle lit dinners, and a romantic movie on Netflix. Kidding. I've been writing short stories and poems ever since I can remember, so to say that I enjoy writing is an understatement. I am so thankful to be apart of HerCampus and all the amazing opportunities coming up!
I'm Nicole! Nikki, Nic, anything you want to call me really. I'm from south-eastern Pennsylvania and I love life and beauty. Whenever I'm not writing or taking pictures for my blogs or social media accounts, you can find me (hopefully) at the beach surfing, traveling, making new friends and seeing new places. I'm in love with people I've never met and places I've never been to. I am currently a Senior (!!!) at Shippensburg University, majoring in Communications Journalism (focusing in Public Relations) and minoring in Psychology. I would love to work for a PR firm with advertising, event planning and perhaps a chance to travel. Thanks for reading!! - Nicole
