I Want to Zoom with Somebody: 6 Fun Ideas You Can Try on Zoom with Anybody!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFU chapter.

With valentines just around the corner, we are all thinking about our loved ones. Yet with the restrictions in place enacting social distancing, what can we do?

Valentines, a day when we usually celebrate those whom we love, now just reminds us on what we are missing out on. Everyone has been struggling to cope, as it has been hard to navigate around fulfilling our basic need to socialize. Luckily, we live in a world where it is possible to have virtual dates and parties! Now, these ideas aren’t just for dates in the traditional sense (although you definitely can use them for dates) these are fun, creative ideas you can do with your friends and family members as well.

Without further ado, here are 6 fun zoom ideas you can try ‘with somebody who loves you!’

Make a Meal Together

Here is a chance to show off some of your culinary skills! Try that new recipe you’ve wanted to try on zoom. Pretend you have your own cooking show. This is a great way to bond as well, as you can have a whole conversation on just food alone.

Draw Portraits

Pour some wine, get that pencil and paper, and draw portraits of each other. This idea is really fun, as you not only have a valid excuse to stare at your crush intensely, but it will be a fun keepsake. You can also do this with friends and family; You never know who secretly has artistic talent.

Be Your Own Travel Agent

Start planning that future vacation, because why the hell not? Although we can’t travel right now, this is a great way to not only escape the quarantine blue but to have something to look forward to when this is all over.

Have a Concert in Your PJ’s

Virtual Dance Parties is hot right now. And feel free to not to dress up for this one, unless you want to. Put that volume on high and sing along with great 80s icon Whitney Houston, ‘I want to dance with somebody’ or should I say, ‘I want to zoom with somebody’.

Netflix and Chill, but with a Horror Twist

If you’re like me, I can’t stand watching horror movies alone, so watch it on zoom with a friend. Then you can both freak out over small sounds together and discuss whether you really think ghosts exist!

Warning: you may end up on zoom all night with this one!

Mindful Tea Talk

Here is an idea that is like a free therapy session.

After a long hectic week, all we want to do is let everything go. A relaxing way to unwind is going through a guided meditation together.

I recommend the 5-4-3-2-1 check in, as it is something you can say out loud to one another: list five things you can see, four that you feel, three that you can hear, two that you can smell and one that you taste.

Then after, make some warm tea and have a nice talk about the events of the week.

Despite restrictions, socializing is still a basic need. And though we are apart, we are all in it together. Because when the night falls the loneliness calls, so go start calling somebody!
