I Shopped Cider So You Don’t Have To!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFU chapter.

Cider has flooded my Instagram. Everytime I go onto Instagram, I see one of their ads. So, what is Cider? Cider is an online store that has a lot of fun, retro vibes that is hard to find at many stores. I am usually skeptical of online stores, but I thought why not try it out? So, with my shopping addiction and curiosity combined I ordered four items from Cider. In this article, I will spill all the tea about my experience on https://shopcider.com/

  4. ‘The Joy of Opening a Gift’ Sweatshirt (Small) $12.80 USD in the colour Red *no longer available online*

Benefits:

Free shipping! We all love a good free shipping moment, but you do have to spend over $59 in order to receive this promotion (which isn’t that hard). Also, discount codes were readily available on the site which makes things a little cheaper. The items came in pretty quick! I would say it probably took around two weeks to arrive at my house, plus there were no duties charged. In terms of the actual clothing, I was surprised at the quality. I have very sensitive skin and none of the items were itchy or felt weird, which is rare.

Cons:

The major con of Cider is the size exclusivity. Many of their items are offered in one size, which is a very outdated way to make clothing. To further add onto this point, the sizing is very unpredictable! The cardigan I bought fit perfectly! Yet the Voulez-Vous Sweatshirt was so oversized that it is truly unwearable outside of the house. The Joy of Opening a Gift Sweatshirt fit well, but was generally a little large for a small size. Lastly, the sweater vest was a hot mess. Not to be overly dramatic, but the vest was so small, I honestly think my two-year-old cousin could fit into it. Finally, Cider is not a sustainable fashion brand. I recognize that fast fashion is killing the environment, so frequently ordering from this brand is not the greatest.

Final Verdict:

My final verdict is that I like Cider, the items are cute and good quality. I don’t think i’d order from them again, but i’m happy with two of my items. I ended up returning the Voulez-Vous Coucher Avec Moi Oversized Sweatshirt and the Check Pattern School Girl Sweater Vest since they were unwearable. P.S. one fun fact is that I get so many compliments on the Summer of ‘89 Button Up Cardigan, which makes it worth the money!

Due to the inconsistent sizing, I would recommend being cautious on what you purchase. Yet, if you do decide to return, Cider has different options. Since return shipping is not included, you have to pay that yourself, which can be pricey since you have to send it to California. With that being said, Cider also offers a 100% store credit for the unsatisfied items. Or, instead of sending back the unwanted items, you could receive 30% of the items cost back. The ability to choose out of the three options is really nice to have!

Overall, I think the cons outweigh the pros, but I would rate my experience shopping with Cider a 5/10. Let us know on the Discord channel if you have ever shopped from Cider before or if you’re going to! Anyways, happy shopping!
