Oversized scrunchies are a new upcoming trend that you need to get your hands on ASAP.  If you’re anything like me, I always put my hair up in different styles and am always on the lookout for new ways to jazz up my hair game. An accessory of choice for me is usually a cute scrunchie. So, when I saw a local brand making oversized scrunchie, I knew I had to have one. The bigger the better, right? Gratefully,  for this article, I was given a few scrunchies from a local Vancouver ecommerce brand called Charlie & Paisley to review their oversized scrunchies. 

Before I begin the review, I have to talk about Charlie & Paisley! The brand is cofounded by a SFU alumnus (how cool is that!) and has the mission to create a new, sustainable standard for hair accessories. Charlie & Paisley is a slow fashion brand made in Vancouver from naturally derived, biodegradable, remnant and vintage deadstock fabrics.  Besides from oversized scrunchies, their other products include face masks, headbands, hats, bags among many more!

Now, let’s spill the tea!

My first initial thought after opening the package from Charlie & Paisley was ‘oh my gosh, I am in love’ and that especially rains true with this blue scrunchie! This scrunchie is super cute and casual for daily wear. My favourite thing about these scrunchies is definitely the quality. For me, I have super thick hair that has on so many occasions broken the standard elastic band. So, having a reliable, secure band is super important to me. With Charlie & Paisley’s scrunchies’ thick bands, I know I am probably never going to have to encounter the struggle of having broken elastics lying around.

Honestly, not to be dramatic, but this pink silk scrunchie is by far my favourite thing I have ever seen. But, how could you not love a pink scrunchie with colorful butterflies? Again, the quality is amazing. This scrunchie is the nicest one I own, it’s so luxurious! Also, sidenote, I get so many compliments whenever I wear this (so you know i’m not the only one). My favourite part about this scrunchie is that you can wear it around the house casually, or dress it up for a date night. Wherever you choose to wear this scrunchie, you are for sure going to look bomb! 

P.S. the scrunchie gives off major vintage vibes and we love that here.

Okay, so maybe this one might be my favourite. Please don’t judge me for being indecisive, it is so hard to choose! I have never seen a scrunchie like this one before, so I was super excited to figure out a way to style it. The scrunchie is made out of silk organza, which sounds so luxurious! To me, I get really fancy vibes from this style. So, my favourite ways to style it are in a low bun or a half up, half down style. The uniqueness, quality, and overall aesthetic make this oversized scrunchie a must have!

Overall, I can’t recommend Charlie & Paisley enough! I love how innovative their products are and how the brand has such sustainable practices. The one con of these products is definitely the price. Each oversized scrunchie ranges from $30-40 in price, which is a little pricey for the average university student. Yet, the pros outweigh the con for sure. When purchasing from Charlie & Paisley, you are buying from a local brand that supports slow fashion. Each scrunchie is handmade from biodegradable products, so with each purchase you’re not contributing to the nasty environmental damage and shady labour practices that fast fashion has to offer.  Cute, ethical, and well-made scrunchies are definitely the new trend!
