Staying on Campus During Easter Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFA chapter.

This is the first time, in the past about three years I’ve been a student at SFA, that I decided to spend Easter break at school instead of at home. It was a hard decision, either—be at home and chill with my family or stay at school. It’s obvious by the title of this article that I decided to stay on campus. Let me tell you, it is by far one of the weirdest experiences I’ve had. It’s not because the action of staying on campus during Easter break is weird, but because there is literally NO ONE on campus (except for us who decided to stay).

I thought Wednesday was weird because of all of the students were leaving, but you never experience true emptiness till the cars that are usually parked between Kerr and Griffith hall are gone. I could walk up and down the street with no fear of a vehicle coming to smash me on its hood. I even took some photographs for this article on the streets at one point because it was so empty.

Since I am staying on campus during the break, it just feels like a series of work days, for me to catch up on the work that has been lacking. I’ve gotten so much done in only three days and I finally feel like I’ve caught up with my work.

Weirdly, the emptiness of the campus had this serene effect. I legit went outside with my roommate (who is also staying on campus as well for the break) and we just talked for three hours straight, enjoying the views of SFA. You never realize how beautiful and peaceful the university campus is till everyone is gone. I enjoyed it immensely.

I do find this break to be kind of stupid considering the university could have let us just have a week off instead of four days, so that maybe some students could be home right now instead of staying on campus, but I digress.  All in all, I’ve been enjoying my stay on campus during the break!
