My New Hobby: Bullet Journaling

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFA chapter.

During the winter break, I decided that I needed a new hobby. I had just heard about bullet journaling and decided that that was something that I would like to try! A bullet journal is essentially a planner that you create yourself and can do WHATEVER you want to it. I decided that I was going to use mine for school so I mainly designated my bullet journal to academics, but I can use it for whatever you want-personal, work, school, etc. Here are some following suggestions to get you started on yours:

1. Get a journal that you like.

While looking for a bullet journal, I wanted to go with a journal that I would actually use. I eventually landed on one for only $8 at Walmart! But there are so many that you could go with and I highly recommend that you look on Amazon as they have a larger assortment of bullet journals.

2. Get an assortment of stationery, stickers, and other supplies.

This part is my absolute favorite. I went WILD in Hobby Lobby when I was trying to find supplies for my bullet journal. Some of the supplies that I got were Micron pens, gel pens, sticker books, things of that nature. It’s up to you what you want your bullet journal to look like so just have fun with it!

3. Decide what style you want your Bullet Journal to be.

Some people like stickers and a lot of color while others want their bullet journals to be more minimalistic. Whether you decide to do a bunch of color, or just want to do black and white, I’m sure that it’ll turn out great! I decided to go with a more colorful approach and have been using gel pens and colored pencils to get the desired effect.

4. Know that Bullet Journaling is for everyone…even if you’re not the greatest artist

This was my biggest hang-up when I first started this entire process. I knew that I wasn’t the best artist but it’s not about that! It’s about having a functional planner that you can utilize. So – do whatever you want to it…it’s yours!
