Movie Marathon: Romantic Comedies You Need to Watch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFA chapter.

Disclaimer: This article contains spoilers for multiple movies.

When you think of a night in, what are your plans like? Do you turn in early, read a book, take a bubble bath, or browse social media? If you are burnt out on some of these, a movie night is a classic way to wind down in the midst of a busy life and get some much needed “me time.” Romantic-comedy is a popular genre which has created so many of society’s standards of life and love (they are also the perfect amount of cheesy).

Here is a list of some of the best romantic comedies available on streaming services so you can get your romance on and enjoy a night in with yourself or with friends!

(Movies on Streaming Services as of April 2018)

Netflix

1. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

With stars like Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, there is no doubt that this movie with off to a good start. With the classic archetypal “bet” we see in many romantic comedies, you get the humor, unlikely pairing, competitive, and end all be all romance in this early 2000’s movie.

 2. 50 First Dates

Bachelor, fear of commitment, and not wanting to settle down is a quick summary of Henry Roth (portrayed by Adam Sandler) in this movie. Missy (portrayed by Drew Barrymore) changes his perspective and easily gets him falling for her. The catch: she has short term memory loss. Watch and find out the many ways Henry Roth tries to steal her heart and retrieve her memory.

         3. Love Actually

Love Actually is closely associated with the term “romantic comedies.” If you think 4 weddings and a funeral is too much to pack in a film, think again! The film is set during the holiday season, but it is a film you can watch during any time of year. From royalty to young boys, everyone in the movie has a chance at humiliating, risk taking, love.
