Fashion Hailstorm – Staying Cozy in Nacogdoches Rain

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SFA chapter.

My first year as an SFA student, I had to learn a lot about how to dress for the weather in my new humid location. For instance, if you haven’t already developed the habit of carrying around an umbrella in your backpack every single day, I highly suggest you start doing so now. You never really know when it will start raining in good ole Nacogdoches, or when you will be drowning in your sweat in 65-degree weather, so here is some tips to stay cozy and comfortable for the fluctuating weather.

  • Ankle Rain Boots. Taking short walks in big rain boots? Totally fine and waterproof. Having to run around campus and sit in class comfortably in high rain boots? Not so great. There are so many cute ankle rain boots at Walmart ranging around $17 that will help you stay dry, and adorable warm socks to wear underneath them. These boots are great to run between classes or sit in the library for a few hours. They will keep you dry, warm and fashionable.
  • Fleece Jackets. If you decide to splurge on a Patagonia fleece or get one at your local good will, get a nice fleece jacket to roll up and keep in your bag for whenever you seem fit. They are typically thin enough to compact it into a tight roll and are always guaranteed to help you stay warm. Because they come in such a wide array of colors and patterns, they can also help your outfits go from being bland to being stylish.
  • Cardigans.Even if the weather outside is in the 50s or 60s, the humidity may end up being in the high 80s. This terrible combination of cold weather and humidity will result in being too sweaty to wear a sweater, but too cold to go without it. So, the best thing to wear? CARDIGANS. Getting one that is thick enough to keep warm, but still cool in the humidity is tricky to find but, once you do find the perfect cardigan, you will never want to let it go.

  • Leggings.Duh, I don’t know of a single girl who doesn’t own at least one pair of leggings. For this colder weather, a lot of leggings you can buy from Walmart and Target have fleece sewn inside them. They will be comfortable and will always be nice to wear, even for the days you sneak away for a nap in the library. Wearing cozy leggings will help you feel comfortable and ready to cuddle up no matter where you go.

In cold weather like this, make sure you keep up with your health as well. Eat your veggies, drink your water, and take your vitamins.
