Christmas is just around the corner and so are finals. It is pretty difficult to get in the holiday spirit when you have four test and a term paper due— but it IS possible. Here are five ways to get in the holiday spirit, even when finals have you feeling like the Grinch.

  1. Reward yourself— It’s hard to get excited about going home for Christmas when your nose is buried in a textbook. For an extra special holiday pick-me-up, buy Christmas candy or cookies and eat one after you finish each chapter or flashcard. You get a burst of holiday cheer after all the hard work you’re putting in. (And it’s Christmas— calories don’t count!)
  2. Decorate your dorm— Twinkly lights will not only make your room more aesthetically pleasing, but they’ll give you some major holiday vibes. At Target, they have mini Christmas trees that sit perfectly on your desk, along with mini battery-operated lights, tree skirts and mini ornaments which all come at a college-friendly price. It’s fun to decorate and a great way to distress during finals week.
  3. Donate to charity– Around this time of year tons of organizations on campus are doing canned food drives and donating clothing to shelters. What could be a better way to get in the holiday spirit than giving to those less fortunate. Are you really going to wear that homecoming t-shirt you got three years ago? Give it to someone who will appreciate it.
  4. Make a Christmas Playlist– Nothing puts your more in a holiday mood than jamming out some Christmas tunes. Whether it’s a classic like Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” some oldies but goodies, or even classical renditions of them for those of you who like to listen to Beethoven as you study— something is bound to awaken the holiday spirit in you.
  5. Exchange small gifts with your friends— Lastly, do Secret Santa or White Elephant with your friends. It’s hard to be a Grinch when you and your friends are spreading holiday cheer and trying to make each other smile.
