Many of you probably noticed the table that’s been moving around campus the past couple of weeks. That was Lizzie and Nikki, representatives from Alpha Delta Pi nationals who were recruiting members for their colonizing chapter. There have been a lot of crazy rumors about them floating around, but they were never here to “steal” members from other sororities. ADPi was selected by a committee of students and faculty after hearing presentations from another interested sorority. The were selected because the committee believed that they were the best fit for Sewanee’s campus culture. Currently, Sewanee’s ADPi chapter has eight members (including myself). They will be recruiting a new pledge class in the spring with everyone else. The eight founding members got their bids on Wednesday, just a little earlier than regular upperclass rush. This wasn’t meant to give them any advantage, it just had to do with the visiting nationals’ schedule. ADPi is glad to be colonizing at Sewanee, and we’re happy to have them here! Here’s some fun facts to get to know ADPi!
- ADPi was first founded in 1851, which makes it the first ever sorority.
- Their symbol is the diamond, and the mascot is a lion named Alphie.
- Their philanthropy is the Ronald McDonald House.
- Famous ADPi’s include actress Kathy Bates and CNN news anchor Nancy Grace.
