H2WOW: Detox and Infused Water

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sewanee chapter.

You’ve heard it time and time again, “drink more water!” Whether it be your mother or your doctor, we know that we should be drinking around 8 glasses of water each day to stay healthy. But sometimes the old H2O gets a little boring, here are some infused water recipes that are easy to make and deliciously refreshing. Each has its own benefits that not only keep you hydrated but keep you motivated as well! Let the drinking games begin!

Watermelon Water

Feeling bloated? Watermelon will help rid that bloat while also giving you that bit of sweetness you’ve been craving. By far the easiest combination, all you need is 2 cups of cubed seedless watermelon and 4 cups of water. Combine in a pitcher and leave it in your fridge for at least a few hours, then sip away.

Apple Spice Water

We all love our pumpkin spice lattes but who has time for those useless calories? Apple spice water tastes like fall but also helps your digestive process, which is great for when you indulge too much at Clurg. The cinnamon can speed up your metabolism and the anise can help you catch a few more Z’s (and can also ramp up your sex drive ;) ).Throw 12 ounces of water, 1 thinly sliced apple, 2 sticks of cinnamon, 3 star Anise into a mason jar or your nalgene and leave it in your fridge overnight. You can also reuse the ingredients 3-4 times just by refilling with 12 ounces of water!

Citrus Detox Water

This is my absolute favorite go-to detox! This infused water keeps my energy levels up, cut cravings, speed up my metabolism, and makes my skin look 100x better! It also is super refreshing and crisp, and actually maybe addictive. You’ll be taking in plenty of vitamins including Vitamin C, potassium, lycopene, calcium, and phosphorus which will help your immune system be on its A game in the fight against the Sewanee Plague. Combine 4 cups of water, 2 sliced lemons, 2 sliced cucumbers, and 1 handful of fresh mint leaves in a pitcher. Feel free to muddle it a bit before leaving it in the fridge overnight. And when you drink it all dry, just add another 4 cups of water!

Cucumber, Raspberry, and Grape Water

Maybe the most atheistically pleasing water you’ll find, but it also will help flush out any toxins you have and keep you uber hydrated! Each ingredient will help cleanse the body while also being something delicious to sip on throughout the day. Add a bushel of grapes (preferably sliced with no stems), one sliced cucumber, and around 15 raspberries to a pitcher full of 4 cups of water, and leave it in the fridge overnight!

Lemon and Cayenne Pepper Detox

Whether you’re discovering the Freshmen 15 is actually real or you’re getting a head start on your spring break body, this cleanse will kick you right back into shape. It’s a key component of the Master Cleanse, as you only rely on this concoction. So if you stopped eating regular foods and just drank this infused water then your body will be launched into a super detox mode. It sounds rather crazy, but my sister is obsessed and routinely does it a few times a year. The combination of lack of food and the water gives your digestive system a break; allowing it to be completely cleared out. In a container mix 2 tablespoons of lemon juice (preferably fresh-squeezed), 2 tablespoons of pure Grade B maple syrup, 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and 8 ounces of warm water. Let me know how this one goes!

Bottoms up, Ladies!
