Is More Winter a Good or Bad Thing?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

Soon enough, the famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil will emerge from his burrow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and will be the deciding factor in whether winter will last for another 6 weeks or whether spring will come early.  If the Feb. 2 is a cloudy day, Phil will not see his shadow and the weather will turn warm; but, if this day is sunny, we will still feel icy weather for almost 2 more months.  Winter can be a pain in the butt, but it can also be beneficial when it comes to gruesome tasks like shaving your legs.

              The Upsides:

1.  As stated before, shaving is non-existent during the frigid winter months.  Long sleeves and long pants (more like sweat shirts and sweat pants) are completely accepted and cover up the long savage-like hair that is harbored underneath.

2.  Using the cold as an excuse to not get out of bed is commonplace.  In the summer, there is no way you can use the excuse “it’s too hot to get out of bed.”

3.  Snow days! There’s nothing quite like looking at your phone in the morning to see that “CLASSES ARE CANCELED” text from the homie Seton Hall.

              The Downsides:

1.  EVERYTHING.

2.  Most of the fun stuff happens when the weather gets warmer.

3.  Spring break is just another winter break unless you spend the money to get away to somewhere tropical.  Especially if your school schedules spring break on the last week of Feb.

4.  You dream about wearing cute sundresses every night because you’re stuck with wearing uncomfortable jeans to look cute during the winter.

5.  There are only a certain amount of ways that you can style a scarf, come on.

6.  Hair dry, face dry, skin dry.  We don’t know about you, but feeling like a reptile is not our preference.

7.  Everyone is a Debbie downer.  People tend to be crankier during the winter; maybe it’s the lack of sunshine.

Well there you have it folks; there are far more downsides than upsides of 6 more weeks of winter.  Let us cross our fingers that Phil decides to come out and play without seeing his shadow on Feb. 2, 2016.

Hey there party people! My name is Sam and I am a double major in Art History and Journalism. Odd mix? Well I am an odd person ;). I have many, many passions in life; some of which include sweet corn, Vincent van Gogh, sugar, my relationship (corny whatever), the stage, writing, squatting, party pants, and The Office. If you put something in front of me, I'll probably be passionate about it. Well, that's me! Yay! Wahoo! Yee haw!
