It’s All Greek to SHU – Bid Day Is Here!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

Giggling girls stampeding in high-heels towards Fahy Hall – no, this is not a Ryan Gosling meet-and-greet, but rather Seton Hall Greek Life’s first rounds of Spring Formal Recruitment.
Roughly 100 PNM’s (that’s sorority slang for potential new members) came out to meet Collegiate Panhellenic Council sororities Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Tau, and Delta Phi Epsilon.
Girls were welcomed to Round One last week where they had a chance to meet sisters and learn more about each organization.  While many had been bonding with sisters at prior social functions, there were plenty of new faces eager to see what Seton Hall Greek Life is all about.
Without official Greek housing, Seton Hall’s recruitment is not your average tour of the mansions.  Instead, girls are welcomed into classrooms where they have 45 minutes to meet sisters and learn about the sorority philanthropy, campus life, and sisterhood.  Because every PNM is required to visit every room, girls have to get to know each organization personally – instead of relying on reputation.
Round One is followed up a week later when the PNM’s will choose their top two organizations and return for another visit.  From here, the sororities will ask their top choices back for Pref Night (more sorority slang for Preference Night – where the sororities will choose who they think to be a good fit to be invited back for one last visit), making it three rounds in total.
Saturday, Feb. 11 is Bid Day.   Girls who are matched to a sorority will receive their bid cards and (if they choose to accept) will officially begin their New Member Education period.  Each group has their own traditions to ensure the girls have a safe, fun, bonding experience to learn the ins and outs of their new sisterhood.
So while a Ryan Gosling appearance on SHU’s campus would be more than thrilling, the Formal Recruitment process is the beginning of a life changing experience for many – and definitely something worth wearing new heels for!
