To the Girls Who Easily Sunburn

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

If you’ve ever been on the Seton Hall campus during a sunny day with temperatures in the 60’s or above, you know that it’s hard to find a spot to sit on the green.  And even if you do squeeze your blanket in between all the other groups of people sitting around, listening to music, doing work, or just talking, you have to watch out for flying baseballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, Frisbees, and cornhole bean bags.

Finally the warm weather you have been waiting for all semester is here.  Finally you can do homework while getting a little color on the green.  Rompers, skirts, dresses, and high-waisted shorts are busted out of your closet. But for some girls, what they wear is more than just a fashion statement.

Sunscreen? This isn’t the beach! I don’t need that! You may think.  Until your super cute new romper is permanently burned into your back.  Your shoulders are as red as the stripes on America’s flag and oh look— the spot where the tie to the string on the top of your outfit is whiter than the paper you’re doing your homework on.  And remember how the romper’s back had an open slit? Yeah there is a line of sunburn straight down your back.

Okay, so you’re sunburned.  But the weather is still beautiful; what do you wear to the green the next day?  You don’t want to make it worse, but if you wear a t-shirt to cover more skin it hurts your sunburn— and who wants a farmer’s tan (or for this matter a farmer’s burn)?  Ladies, I’m here to tell you that you are not alone.

So pass the sunscreen, the hats, the long sleeved shirts and lots of aloe.  Sunny days on the green here we come.
