A Full Moon Is Coming

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

Hey Pirates! Crazy things seem to be happening left & right…and we think we know why. There’s a full moon this Monday! Now even though this may not be the reasoning behind all the crazy things that have been occuring, the moon does have some unique myths and theories regarding it.

1. The Moon is a Hollow Spacecraft: This myth originated with different 20th century sci-fi books that claimed the moon was hollow and aliens lived inside. Then in the 1970s, it was taken a step further when Soviet scientists claimed the moon was a shell-like alien spacecraft. They said it was built by aliens with advanced technology and intelligence.

2. A Rabbit Lives on the Moon: This comes from several different cultures from across the globe. Different groups from Buddhists to Native Americans all have unique traditions and stories that tell the tale of a rabbit living on the moon.

3. Full Moons Make you Crazy: We’ve all heard this one before. Full moons are associated with all kinds of eratic behavior like sleepwalking, suicide, illegal activity, fits of violence, and even humans turning into werewolves! And who can forget the word “lunatic” which derives from the Roman goddess of the moon, Luna. So there’s got to be some kind of connection somewhere between the moon and some craziness.

Be sure to either find yours or stay far away from it this Monday when the full moon comes out to play!
