Campus Cuties: Teagan and Sam

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we had the chance to interview Teagan Sebba and Sam Matino, a well-known Seton Hall couple. Both Teagan and Sam are active members of Student Government Association and Greek Life. We interviewed them immediately after they participated in Alpha Phi’s philanthropy event, King of Hearts. This couple’s game show had the males try to answer questions about their significant other, and to see if their answers matched their girlfriend’s responses.

Name(s): Teagan Sebba and Sam Matino

Year: Junior (Sebba) and Senior (Matino)

Major: Political Science (Sebba) and Diplomacy and International Relations (Matino)

Hometown: Fort Collins, Colorado (Sebba) and Millstone, New Jersey (Matino)

Her Campus (HC): Why did you two decide to compete in Alpha Phi’s Event, King of Hearts?

Teagan Sebba (TS): My friend Kayla encouraged us to. She told us it would be good for Greek life and Study Government Association. It sounded fun!

Her Campus (HC): Were you two hesitant to compete at all?

TS: Nah!

Sam Matino (SM): A little. I was nervous.

TS: I think it would be more fun to see the little things that he knows about me- to see if he slips up.

Her Campus (HC): Teagan, do you wish that your boyfriend had answered every single question correctly in the competition?

TS: No! I think that would be scary; that would be too much because I didn’t’ even know some of the answers about myself. He actually knew some answers about me that I didn’t. I was like oh man that’s the right answer! I was wrong.

Her Campus (HC): Sam, we know that you studied abroad in Belgium last year. Any advice for two people who have feelings for each other, but one is studying abroad while the other remains at school in the U.S.?

SM: It’s hard, but you have to trust that there will be a future. You can’t tell yourself otherwise.

TS: I liked the letters. We used to write letters back and forth and I thought that was really cute. I would prefer snail mail over impersonal texts. I think that made it special.

Her Campus (HC): Do you think that advice could apply to long distance couples that go to colleges on other sides of the country?

SM: I think the fact that made it work was that I knew when I was coming home. I think that when couples go to separate schools for four years, that’s a very long time and people do a lot of growing and a lot of changing. Six months abroad was not quite as long as four years.

TS: We have the similarities of Seton Hall. It was easy to talk to him and connect with him when he was away. He would ask how Student Government Association, my sorority, and his fraternity were doing. We had the common ground of the school.

Her Campus (HC): What advice would you give to a couple that is only physically in each other’s presence during the school year, but live in different states over the summer?

TS: Sometimes you need time to miss them. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.

SM: To know when you are going to see them again in the future and to look forward to it.

Her Campus (HC): How do you two feel about Valentine’s Day? Is it a day to do something special or just a “Hallmark Holiday”?

TS: I love Valentine’s Day! It is the holiday to tell people that you love them and that’s fun!

SM: I like Valentine’s Day too. I don’t think it is as much of a “Hallmark Holiday” as some of the other ones are.

TS: I think you need a day to dedicate to the people you love.

SM: It makes February a less depressing month!

Her Campus (HC): Any Valentine’s Day Plans?

SM: I do.

TS: What does that mean? Ask him more questions! This is the first Valentine’s Day that we spent together. Last year, he sent me a box of chocolates from Belgium. That was cute, but this is our first real Valentine’s Day.

We hope Teagan and Sam enjoy their Valentine’s Day. And to everyone else, single or in a relationship, have a great day with the ones you love!
