It’s officially a new year, which means it’s also officially time to start making promises to yourself that you’re almost guaranteed to break. I’m not saying New Year’s resolutions are a con, but the fact that the government has a list of the most common resolutions across America leads me to believe that the practice might not be as life changing as we are led to believe. Of course, it’s important to continue to set goals for yourself in an attempt to become the best you that you can be, but there’s no universal rule that says you can only make these goals once a year on January 1st. Any and every day of the year is a perfectly acceptable and appropriate time to set self-improvement goals. If you’re still looking to buy into the tradition of New Year’s resolutions, check out these easy resolutions you can make for yourself. After all: who has time to keep up with the impossibly ambitious things they said they were going to do when they were drunk and cold and tired? Sometimes self-improvement has to be done in baby steps.
1. Go outside every day.
2. Drink water. Like, any amount.
3. Get some sleep.
4. Give your pets love. If you do not have a pet, hug someone else’s pet. If you do not like animals, snuggling a pillow does the trick just fine.
5. Buy something you don’t need but really want. That purse is calling your name, just like the six identical ones you already have at home.
6. Let yourself listen to “top 40” music. It’s popular for a reason, people!
7. Say “thank you”. Unless you’re a mannerless monster, this one should be second nature.
8. Use social media. We’re living in a technological revolution; what’s the point in not taking part in history?
9. Eat your favorite food as often as possible. Whoever said that “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” has, as been pointed out many times, never had pizza rolls. Nothing tastes as good as pizza rolls.
10. Go makeup-less. Give in to your laziness and skip the routine and get an extra fifteen minutes of beauty sleep. You’ll be killing two birds with one stone!
