Hot Girl Summer, the infamous phrase coined by rapper Megan Thee Stallion, took the internet and world by storm, and even lead to songs bearing that title. It started a trend on social media, showing up daily in tweets, and eventually could be seen in Instagram captions. A community supporting the phrase quickly formed, with other women sharing pictures or tweets about their hot girl summer. At first glance, it seems to be a fun, catchy phrase that has a one-dimensional meaning. However, it actually holds a much deeper meaning and life lesson that all us girls can take something away from, even after summer 2019 is over.

On the outside, it seems to be referring to one’s looks, their level of attractiveness. Below the surface, however, lies an empowering statement of self love and not caring what other people think. Loving yourself, because confidence is sexy and hot. You cannot truly love others until you love yourself, and the journey to becoming confident in oneself is not an easy one; however, it is rewarding. I personally went on this journey this past year after going through a hard break up. It all starts with self care, and taking care of your mind and body. With summer coming to a close, be sure to keep the Hot Girl Summer vibes going all year long, because being YOU is beautiful. Own your inner and outer beauty because that is HOT, babe.
