If you’re one of the 1 billion people in the world that use Tik Tok, you may have heard the term “That Girl” on your For You Page recently.

If you haven’t, here’s a quick definition: “That Girl” is essentially the girl that has everything in life together. She balances school, work, fitness, health, a social life, downtime, etc. And, she makes it look easy. She only wears matching workout sets and her skincare routine is perfect. She’s the first to hop on the latest trends and you’ll never catch her with a hair out of place.

It may seem impossible, and probably very unrealistic for the majority of us, but here are a few tips to help you achieve “That Girl” status.

1. find a balance

Life is essentially just a balancing act. For college students, you have to find time for a social life in between a crazy school and work schedule. Remind yourself that you can do both and make it a goal to have downtime in your week. This can be going out with friends, having a self-care night, or even just hanging out with your roommates. If you don’t have a little bit of free time in your week to relax, you might be taking on too much.

2. make a routine

Humans are creatures of habit. We thrive when we have a routine we can follow. Making a routine for yourself can help you manage your stress and have enough time in your day to get it all done. My planner is my best friend; I can schedule out my day and a visual format helps keep me on track.

3. treat yourself

You deserve to be spoiled so why not do it yourself? Buy yourself a coffee (or tea), do some retail therapy, and take the time to reconnect with yourself. “That Girl” is all about being her best self, so some self-care can go a really long way.

4. remember you don’t have to have it all together

At the end of the day, “That Girl” is not as perfect as she may seem. She has bad days, gets frustrated, feels burnt out. The best and easiest way to become “That Girl” is to recognize that not every moment in life is going to be perfect or aesthetic, and that takes time. Not everything goes according to plan, so find joy in being spontaneous!

Overall, the “That Girl” you see all over your social media pages is just an illusion. There is not a person on the planet who has it all together 100% of the time. Finding a balance in life for self-care and having fun is a challenge, especially as college students, but can be managed. Don’t focus on someone else’s version of “That Girl,” find your inner “That Girl” and create a lifestyle that works for you!
