I’m absolutely obsessed with Free People’s aesthetic but as a college student on a budget, I struggle to implement that style into my life. Unfortunately, the reality is that a lot of us college girls can’t afford to buy an entire wardrobe of Free People (FP) and Free People Movement’s perfect mix of bohemian, sometimes maximalist, and effortlessly cool clothes. With these ten picks, you can bring the FP aesthetic to your wardrobe without needing to spend thousands of dollars.
- Hot Shot Mini Dress
-
Starting out with the “Hot Shot Mini Dress” from FP Movement, I seriously don’t know what I would do if I hadn’t bought this dress. To be honest, I was hesitant to buy it because I wasn’t sure how much use I’d get out of it, and it sat in my closet with the tags still on for the first couple of weeks after purchasing, but now that I’ve figured out how to style it, it’s without a doubt in my weekly outfit rotation. I have it in black, and it has a bit of a washed look, but they also sell it in many other colors.
- We The Free Gallivanting Peekaboo Skort
-
In my opinion, every girl should own at least one skort… they’re life-changing! FP’s “We The Free Gallivanting Peekaboo Skort” is the perfect addition to literally any outfit and comes in so many different shades of denim and colors. A skort is the perfect way to make any outfit a little bit cuter and girlier, while being super comfortable, with the peace of mind that you have built-in shorts under your skirt.
- So Many Likes Long Sleeve
-
Next, FP’s “So Many Likes Long Sleeve” tee. I own this long sleeve in shade “Ivory” and love wearing it under overalls or under my “Hot Shot Mini Dress” from FP Movement. In my opinion, it’s a super good basic to have while still emphasizing that Free People aesthetic, with the lace detailing on the sleeves.
- Carpe Diem Shorts
-
I really like FP Movement’s “Carpe Diem Shorts,” which are basically just a pair of shorts with a cute knit high-rise waistband. They sell them in a bunch of super fun and bright colors, so you can pick depending on your vibe, and the way they’re designed would be flattering on any body type.
- Layla Set
-
When I think about FP, one of the first things that comes to mind is a nice and flowy cute little top. A flowy or ruffly top is a perfect and super simple way to embrace FP’s vibe, and their “Layla Set” is just that! It’s a cute little crinkled cotton ruffle top paired with a matching skirt, which I think is perfect because the shirt and skirt could be separated and matched with other items in your closet. The “Layla Set” comes in a variety of colors, but my personal favorite is the “Cornflower Blue”.
- Forevermore Tank
-
Another flowy top I adore is FP’s “Forevermore Tank”, which they also sell as a long sleeve called the “Forevermore Long-Sleeve Top”. This top is perfect for pairing with any bottoms, depending on what color you buy, and it looks like it could be easily dressed up or down. I personally love the yellow “Chardonnay” color but it’s sold in many other colors.
- My Time Tee
-
I’m almost confident we’ve all seen the TikTok viral open-back flowy tee to throw over a workout set, many of which are dupes for FP Movement’s “My Time Tee”. Currently available in twenty different colors, this top is truly the perfect addition to any activewear outfit, especially if you love a tiny workout set but are looking to cover up a bit more. I bought this tee in white just a couple of weeks ago, and wear it all the time. FP Movement also has a long-sleeve version of this same top, available in fifteen different colors, called the “My Time Layer”.
- We The Free Good Luck Printed Barrel Jeans
-
As a 6’2” girly, I’m unfortunately too tall to fit into FP jeans, but I’m obsessed with the look of their “We The Free Good Luck Printed Barrel Jeans” and other non-printed barrel jeans. I totally get if these jeans aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I love them!
- For The Win Wide-Leg Pants
-
I’m a big fan of FP Movement’s “For The Win Wide-Leg Pants”. I actually tried a grey shade of these on in-store and almost bought them because they were long enough for my legs… which was kind of insane! I love the wide-leg fit and the cute little FP Movement logo on the hip, but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy sweatpants in the middle of summer (but I may have to go back for them one day this fall).
- We The Free Palm Springs Pullover
-
FP has a wide variety of jackets and sweaters, but one of my personal favorites, which I recently purchased, is their “We The Free Palm Springs Pullover”. I bought it in “Banana Cream”, but I also really love the “Sapphire Princess” electric blue color. I’m obsessed with the wide neckline and sleeve cuffs, which remind me of Parke‘s trending mockneck sweatshirts.
I hope you enjoyed this college girl’s guide to the Free People aesthetic, a compilation of ten items, some that I own and some that I wish I owned, all of which I believe could help anyone get a little closer to implementing Free People’s dreamy and bohemian but also colorful and fun aesthetic into their life!
