4 Ways to Spice Up Your Quarantine Workout

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

Like many, my workout routine has completely shifted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before quarantine, I loved to go to workout classes with my friends, go to the gym , and go for trail runs. Being active is one of my favorite things because I find that for me, it’s a form of therapy, a time that I solely dedicate to myself. So, when the traditional ways of exercising were no longer available due to the pandemic , it was incredibly challenging.

At first, I found it really difficult to find workouts to do at home that kept me feeling positive and motivated. There are so many options to choose from and it can be incredibly overwhelming. I also struggled with feeling like there was no chance I could get as good of a workout from home than I would with one of the ways of working out I was used to. Luckily, through a ton of trial and error, I found four workout platforms that I absolutely love. And, I can also confirm, these are definitely tough ones!

Melissa Wood Health

Melissa Wood Health is an app by Melissa Wood Tepperberg, a certified yoga and pilates instructor. Her method is one that focuses on quick, effective workouts using small, low impact movements in order to tone and lengthen your body. The workouts also require very minimal equipment and can all be done with your own bodyweight. Melissa Wood Health focuses not only on the physical aspect of movement, but also on what it can do for your mind, which is so important during these unprecedented times.

In addition to her workouts, you can also find various recipes, meditations and general lifestyle content. My whole family uses the Melissa Wood app now as they absolutely love it as well!

Kira Stokes FIT App

Kira Stokes is someone I found through one of my favorite celebrities, Shay Mitchell. She is a celebrity trainer who works with people like Ashley Graham, Candance Bure and Hannah Bronfman. She teaches at a studio in NYC and has an app called “Kira Stokes Fit.” Through stalking both Shay and Kira’s instagram accounts and seeing the incredible transformations her workouts have given people, I finally decided to subscribe. It’s primarily high intensity interval training workouts that are structured by repeating different circuits three times. The workouts on this app are some of the most difficult I’ve ever done, but I always feel so accomplished afterwards. Kira also has such a wide variety of workouts, whether it be an hour and a half of weight training and cardio, or a stretching class.

PopSugar Fitness Youtube Channel

Pop Sugar Fitness is a youtube channel with thousands of full length workouts with some of the most popular and famous trainers in the world. These workouts range from HIIT, to pilates, to yoga, to dance cardio, to barre. It’s amazing because not only is it completely free, but you also have access to so many amazing trainers without having to pay for their classes or subscribe to their online workout platforms. Some of my favorite videos on PopSugar Fitness are Body By Simone and the Sculpt Society, both dance cardio workouts.
