A New Outlook for The New Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCSU chapter.

For many years I have always drawn up a list of things I want to change and improve upon for the new year. So as 2016 comes to a close I wanted to give you some ideas for your New Year’s resolutions by giving you some of mine.

Positive vibes as often as possible

This is a big one because as a college student it’s easy to focus on the negatives. However, try to focus on the positives and find the positive in the negative. Doing this will make you live a happier life overall.

Eat healthy and exercise a minimum of 30 Minutes a day, 5 times a week

Sure it’s fantastic to promise yourself on January 1st that you’ll exercise for hours every day and only eat healthy foods. However, we often fail to those expectations because they are very intense. and sudden.

Instead work towards making a lifestyle change and exercising for around a half hour a couple days a week. Also, eat healthy with a cheat meal here and there!

(TIP: To make it easier find something you enjoy like dancing or soccer!)

Stress less!

I bet you’re chuckling to yourself on that one right? But I’m serious! College is a very stressful time with many deadlines and obligations. So try to manage your time more efficiently so you’re not cramming for a test the night before or writing that essay the day its due. Also meditations are something I’ve been introduced to by my coach recently and they’re fantastic at clearing your mind and relaxing your entire body.

Selflessness and selfishness in moderation

The best feeling is the feeling of giving. So this year go and volunteer at the events your school has to offer or even do it on your own. It gives you something to get your mind off of the things going on in your life while making a difference in the lives of others.

But, this year, also understand that sometimes you NEED to be selfish. You need to learn to sometimes say “no” and to give yourself a break. If you overwhelm yourself odds are you won’t be able to help others if you don’t help yourself first.

Read more good books

I swear one of the best things is finding a great book and a cozy spot to escape into the world that the author created for you.

So when you have the time, pass on the Netflix binge and find a good book. Not only will it improve your vocabulary but it will help in the long run with all the papers you’ll have to write because reading is a crucial step in learning to write well.

Make 2017 a great one!

Leave the past in the past. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you may have made in this past year. Learn from them and move on. Regrets will only make it harder for you to make today a positive one.

Live in the present and make it beautiful!

To all my readers I hope you have a FABULOUS 2017 filled with lots of joy and success. I hope I gave you some ideas as you enter the New Year. You are all so beautiful inside and out and I wish you all the best in the year to come! xoxo
