What It’s Like to be a Water Bottle Addict

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

I want to address a serious matter regarding college students: water bottle addiction. Yes, I know, how can someone develop an addiction to water bottles? It’s true, it happens. It’s me. I am amongst the slightest few who developed this addiction. How do you know if you have one or not? Well listen up, because I’m about to tell you…

The addiction is initially harmless, after all, you are saving the environment and decreasing plastic waste.. Right?? Well here’s how it starts..

1. You have one for everyday of the week.

You probably have them lined up in the cabinet by the days of the week. I know I do!

2. When you misplace one you feel like it’s the end of the world.

You know the feeling when you misplace something and you don’t know how you’ll ever get through the day without it.

3. You’re the easiest person to shop for because everyone knows exactly what to get you.

4. You don’t know where to store them anymore because every cabinet is filled with them in an organized but unorganized manner.

You’ve resulted in taking over the plates and bowls cabinet and now you don’t have anywhere to store your beloved china.

5, You often forget what water bottles you have, so when you find them it’s like getting a brand new one all over again.

Like finding money in your old purse or jacket you wore last month. Who doesn’t love that feeling??

6. You have a water bottle that pretty much accents every outfit.

You don’t just have the basic clear, black, and purple water bottles, you have probably all the water bottles the University of Scranton bookstore, Swell, Camelback, and blender bottles have to offer.

7. You have designated water bottles for work, for school, for going out, for working out, for home and for in the car.

Who doesn’t have their “this is just water.. nothing else” water bottle on a Friday night?

8.  All your water bottles have either a monogram or quote decal.

A monogram or a saying is a must.

9. You buy other people water bottles because you’re an addiction pusher and don’t want to go through the dependence alone.

You have the mindset that you’re not going down alone and the closest person is going down with you.

Although this may be the newest temptation, there ARE ways to conquer it. You can give away some water bottles. Yes, it might be hard, but help yourself by helping others. Also, don’t be tempted by the sales. Just keep chanting like Spongebob, “I don’t need it… I don’t need it…” and swiftly walk away like you didn’t see anything at all.
