The ultimate guide for surviving thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

It’s the time of the year when family and friends, whether you enjoy their company or not—come together to celebrate the holidays. It is time to put your differences aside, and enjoy the time off. So, I am here to ensure your time away from school work is stress free and as enjoyable as it can be.

  1. Start your morning off by watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Nothing can put you in a bad mood when you see the colorful floats going down the streets of NYC.
  2. Dress cute and get an awesome outfit pic for Instagram. Nothing helps you feel better than getting lots of compliments from your besties.

3. Eliminate politics from the dinner table. Although we all love to talk about who we all just voted for in the primaries—to keep the peace around the turkey, keep that conversation away.

4. Don’t take everything personally. All families love commenting on your life choices, your lack of a relationship, and the rips in your jeans. Deep down, they are just looking out for you, so don’t worry about all of the back-handed compliments you receive.

5. Last but certainly not least…..EAT all of the foods! This is your day to engulf in all the yummy food you have been deprived of since being at school. Eat the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and go back for more if you need it! No one can judge you for that!

Be sure to be thankful for the people around you, and enjoy the food!
