The Met Gala and Its Political Statements

Politics took the nation in a constant uproar with ongoing labels and protests for the past few years, and this year, it took place in the 2021 Met Gala.  The Met Gala had recently happened and there were political statements at nearly every gaze even though it was not fully publicized.  During the Met Gala, a few celebrities wore quite the statement piece from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her stunning white trumpet dress with red letters which spelt out “TAX THE RICH” to Gigi Hadid’s Prada dress which spelt out “DECOLONIZE THE MALE GAZE”.  More than ever, this nation is engulfed in politics and everything that is going on and what better way to fight for our beliefs than wearing them?  A$AP Rocky had “Meat is Murder” written on his underwear, Cara Delevingne had also worn white with red letters that spelt “PEG THE PATRIACHY”.  Kris Jenner had “SAY THEIR NAMES” sprawled across her sleeves despite not completely even remembering “their names”, and Lil Naz X?  His metal suit read, “REMEMBER TO VOTE IN LOCAL ELECTIONS.”  A few other sayings from other celebrities were, “REFORM PRISONS” from Kim Kardashian as she wore a head-to-toe, face-covering body suit, Pete Davidson’s Jacket of “RACISM=NOPE”.  Grimes had on “SPACE TRIPS ARE ONLY KIND OF WASTEFUL.”, Frank Ocean and his green baby doll that said, “Within a capitalist society, the inherent value of a human life is commodified based on the labor it can provide.”  Lastly, we have Alicia Keys’s outfit which said, “UNIONIZE, BUT NOT IN A WAY THAT PERPETUATES CORRUPTION” and lastly both Timothée Chalamet and Jennifer Lopez, with Chalamet’s sweatpants saying, “I’M STILL QUITE CONFUSED ABOUT BREXIT.” And Lopez’ cowboy hat that simply said “ENVIRONMENT.”  Will next year’s Met Gala take such a political storm or is that only because of everything that is going on lately?  Are these fashions a hit or miss because of their words of reform?  And why aren’t more people talking about it?
