A Thank You to My First College Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

Dear first college friend,

I don’t think you realize how much I needed you to come into my life during the first semester. You know that I assumed you were kind of mean when I first met you, but you don’t know how pleasantly surprised I was to discover you were the complete opposite.

What you don’t know, is that I left my first day of classes a feeling like an emotional wreck. You don’t know that I sat in my room and cried. I thought finding a job that didn’t require a college degree wouldn’t be a bad option. You were a miracle that managed to push that fear away.

So thank you, for placing me outside of my comfort zone. You taught me that it is okay to make new friends, and I even didn’t have to leave my old ones behind! Thank you for exposing me to my adventurous side (but never as adventurous as yours).

Thank you for always knowing what to say. You’ve known me for so long now that you always know when I’m having an off day. Instead of telling me what I want to hear, you tell me what I NEED to hear. Thank you for being the balance to the emotional mess that I am sometimes.

You gave me the courage to branch out and talk to and make friends within my classes. If it weren’t for you, I would have never put effort into making friends because I was convinced no one wanted to be mine. You showed me that most people were in the same boat as me, and all they needed was a little motivation.

Lastly, thank you for being you. Whether it’s a dance party in the car or laughing at funny online GIFs, you always know how to make me laugh. You’ve made such an impact on my life over the past four years, and I will forever be grateful that I met you.

XOXO,
Your Thankful Friend

Emily has a love-hate relationship with Moe's Southwest Grill and would probably eat chips and queso for every meal if it didn't mean that she'd have to work out afterwards. She loves being a part of Her Campus Scranton and can't wait to see what her future holds!
