My Favorite Christmastime Activities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

As we make it to the middle of December, the Christmas vibes are only getting stronger. This year, my holly jolly spirit has not been hitting hard, probably because of my massive transition from high school to college life. However, since break begins at the end of this week, I am starting to get more and more excited for all of the fun festivities. Below are just a few of my favorite Christmastime activities to do with friends, family, or by yourself!!

Making gingerbread houses

I love making gingerbread houses with my friends! They never, ever end up like they’re supposed to, but that’s half the fun!! Pro tip: decorate before constructing.

Driving around looking at Christmas lights with milkshakes

My sisters and I have made it a tradition to get the peppermint shake from Chick-fil-A and drive around our town looking at Christmas lights. We listen to Christmas music, and it really gets me in the jolly mood!!

Hallmark Movie PJ Night

Hallmark movies are my all-time favorite movie series ever!! Maybe it’s because of their cheesy titles or the fact that every plotline is the exact same, but there is something so magical about watching them. In the days leading up to Christmas, you can find me on the couch in some fun pajamas and a nice warm mug of hot chocolate. Sometimes, my family plays Hallmark movie bingo, which is surprisingly difficult to win. And yes, Lacey Chabert is my queen.

Decorating our Christmas tree

My family does everything last minute, including decorating the tree. What was once a last-minute “oh no we forgot to decorate the tree” moment, has turned into a Christmas Eve-eve tradition. We put on Christmas music and decorate the tree together as a family. As part of the tradition, I always place my ugly neon pink ornament at the prime spot in the center of the tree, and my dad always moves it to the back.

Board games near the fire

Every year, everyone in my family puts their phones aside to sit down and play a board game near the fire. This is one of my favorite traditions because I have always loved playing board games and being near the fire makes me so happy. But don’t be fooled, it gets ultra-competitive when Monopoly comes out!!
