As we near the end of October and we see more pumpkin themed items appear around us, the feelings of Halloween get stronger and stronger.  Personally, one of my favorite parts of this time of year is all of the movies and shows there are to watch! Whether you’re in the mood for a scare, a light family friendly film, or simply a series with a subtle creepy vibe, this list has something for everyone.

Halloweentown

A personal favorite of mine, the Disney Channel Original Movie Halloweentown is a must watch every October. The series as a whole has four movies, yet the first two hold a special place in my heart. Following the main characters Marnie, Dylan, and Sophie, the series explores an alternate world full of witches, vampires, werewolves and any other mystical creature you could imagine. This one is perfect for a family friendly movie night!

The Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor

Honestly, I have very few words to describe how fantastic this show is. Having recently added a second season, the series is climbing its way to the top of my favorites. Both entries of The Haunting series have many of the same cast and crew members but stand independently. Both provide you with a sense of being creeped out with the occasional jump scare. As a viewer, you are given in-depth looks into the lives and stories of each character and in the end both seasons are beautifully heartbreaking and truly haunting.

Scream

A Halloween classic, this 1996 slasher film is an oldie but a goodie. It follows a high school student Sidney through her struggles of being the target of a killer dressed as Ghostface. This movie is different from other slasher films at the time because the characters in the film make comments about the cliches of horror movies.

The Vampire Diaries

Typically, not thought of as a Halloween show, The Vampire Diaries will give you that subtle October feel because of the very nature of the show. I mean hey, vampire is in the title! As my favorite show of all time, this 8-season series that can be found on Netflix is a great show all year long, especially in the chilly fall weather.

Twitches

Another Disney Channel Original Movie, Twitches is also a great family friendly film. When two teen witches separated at birth finally meet, it makes for a wonderful movie. This one also has a sequel, Twitches Too, which I would also highly recommend

Halloween

Last but not least, it only felt right to include the Halloween franchise on this list of must watch movies and shows this time of year. The original movie has 8 sequels, clearly advocating for its entertainment. They primarily focus on Michael Myers, who is a man who has escaped years after murdering his own sister. He is now stalking and killing the people of his town. His killings always take place on the day of Halloween, granting the franchise its name.

Hopefully this list aided in some suggestions for your next movie night, so grab that fuzzy blanket, some apple cider, and your popcorn. Now, enjoy the spookiness of the end of October!
