This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

Name: Brian Lloyd

Year: Junior

Hometown: Queens, NY

Major: COMM

You might have seen Brian on RTN, heard him on WUSR or read his articles on various platforms! See how this junior comm major is leveraging his creative talents profesionally through a blog he created, personal production projects and stand up comedy! He also boycots the oxford comma and enjoys alliterations.

HC: I understand you started freshman year as a bio major…what made you want to change to Communication? BL: I came in pre-med, and I completely hated myself. I truly feared being miserable for the entirety of my existence. Comm is much more fun. I needed to be in a creative field.

HC: What’s the best part about being a comm major at the U? BL: The comm department at Scranton is pretty small so it is super supportive. There’s little restriction on using equipment and resources which makes gaining hands on experience very accessible.

HC:What’s you dream job?

BL: I try not to plan out my life too far ahead so I have varying dream jobs. Writing for SNL or more reasonably any comedy writers room would be awesome. I’ve also become really interested in writing and producing for TV more generally, so I guess just being paid to write creatively for something professionally. That seems to be the common factor.

HC: As I know, you started your own own blog and podcast called Idiots Without Credibility, can you tell me about that? BL: Yeah, so a bunch of my friends and I used to talk about working on writing together or making some comedy videos, and finally I decided it was time for us to stop just talking about it. There was a lot going on in the world that I wanted to talk about and I saw people getting paid to do exactly that for other media brands. I thought I could do it too, and do it better. First came the podcast, and the website followed to try and grow the brand.

HC: How do you think IWC relates to current millennials? BL: Millennials are given a bad wrap because there is a chunk of them that are just terrible. Because of that, millennials don’t have a true voice to call out all of the nonsense attributed to the generation, and that is one of the prime objectives of IWC is to make fun of the dumb stuff that gives Millennials a bad name.

HC: Love it! Where can someone find/listen to IWC?

BL: Everything can be found on IdiotsWithoutCredibility.com and the podcast is available on iTunes, SoundCloud, YouTube and Stitcher. We need followers so subscribe right now! Like actually do it. Leave us a 5 star review. It takes about 3 seconds and it helps a ton.

HC: How else do you leverage your passion for communications? Have you taken your writing talents elsewhere?

BL: I’m currently in production on a short film that I wrote. I’ll be directing and producing as well. That’s my main focus at the moment, but I’m also constantly working on other writing. Recently I’ve been working on submitting writing packets to stuff you’d recognize (I just don’t want to name drop, but trust me it’s cool).

HC: I heard you do stand-up comedy. When did you start?  BL: I’ll have been doing stand-up in NYC for 3 years this July.

HC: Do you plan to take stand-up with you in your career? BL: It is definitely a factor when it comes time to make post-grad plans. As of now, I never want to stop. I’m not expecting that to ever change.

HC: What’s your least favorite internet trend? BL: Right now, it’s the student athlete tweets. But anything that lasts more than like 3 days I’ll start hating.

HC: Do you wear Timbs and a Yankee hat? BL: I do wear Timbs and shorts under my sweatpants. I’ll say “deadass,” but you will NEVER catch me in a Yankee hat. I’m a diehard Mets fan.

HC: Where do you see yourself in 5 minutes?

BL: I already said I don’t like planning my life! Nah, but catch me watching Jeopardy or Seinfeld. Trebek and the Sein fuel me like photosynthesis.
