Life in the Real World as told by Modern Family

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

We are in the last month of the spring semester but for many us it is our last semester – ever. Graduates have the last four years (some perhaps more) in their rearview mirror and the “real-world” is looming in front on a long open highway, filled with possibilities (as well as detours). Read on to learn about a typical work day for the post-college grads.

1. Happy HOUR becomes a night out ending with a mad dash for the 2 a.m. train, only to awaken early and return the next day. This isn’t college… you can’t schedule “no work” Fridays and you must show up on time

2. How we feel about our alarm clock going off at 5 a.m. in order to have time to shower and eat breakfast

3. Then you have to make coffee and catch the train to commute

4. Trying to squeeze onto the subway in the morning on your way to work

5. Your boss asking you to forward her the email but your inbox is too full and you can’t find the email anywhere

6. An hour later she asks for those press releases and you just want to hide under your desk because today is just not your day

7. You can’t sweet talk your way out of work like you could out of that homework assignment…

8. After moving back home it will eventually be time for you to find yourself an apartment… I think your parents will agree even though they really enjoyed your company…

9. But once you’re completely independent and in the “real-world” they will miss their baby

10. But you finally succeed and make yourself and your family proud

Megan was born in NYC and is the youngest of four. She moved to a small town, Glen Rock, NJ shortly after her arrival. She graduated from The University of Scranton in May of 2015 with a BA in strategic communication. At the University, Megan was a member of the women's soccer team and a writer and feature story editor for HC Scranton. Megan is very active and takes on all sorts of fitness classes. Megan enjoys being surrounded by friends and family and going to her lake house on Brant Lake in the Adirondacks during the summer (ignore Blair Waldorf... the Adirondacks is a BEAUTIFUL place to vacation!)
Samantha is an East Coast girl from Pennsylvania with a New York City attitude and a Florida mindset. Her shopping habits are contagious; she has inherited them from her mom (they say mother knows best, right?). Samantha is a University of Scranton senior majoring in Strategic Communication with a minor in Business. She is the Campus Correspondent of Her Campus Scranton, which she co-founded in September 2014 with her best friend, Elise. She is also the captain for Scranton Love Your Melon and secretary of the University of Scranton's Business Club. Follow her on Instagram and Twitter, @samanthaamilazzo @samanthaliza_
