A Leader and Inspiration, Morgan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

Born and raised in North Jersey, this Royal knows how to manage her time while accomplishing her goals. You probably have seen her in the library or doing rounds throughout Region 4, so go ahead and read more about my best friend, the marvelous Morgan Smith!

HC: What was the best thing about being a full time HR recruiting intern for Sands Casino this summer?MS: Definitely getting the hands on experience of what I’m going to be doing when I’m older. Having an internship made it clear that I wanted to pursue my career in HR. The people I worked with were like family and I know they will always be there to support me.

HC: Some people mix up what HRs do. So, what exactly do you want to do with an HR degree?MS: Well, an HR deals with people in the company, whether it be implementing new training programs or helping an individual get a job through the recruitment process. I would be dealing with the “people problems” in the work place and finding the best way to solve them.

HC: What was the strangest thing you’ve seen so far being an RA in Condron?MS: While on duty one night, I walked past a lounge where a Jesus statue had a sign on it saying “touch me for good luck!” We truly are a Jesuit institution.

HC: How do you balance your time between your major, Business Leadership Program, and RA life?MS: I pretty much take it day-by-day. With the amount of things that run through my head, I wouldn’t know what to do without my planner. The balance kind of finds itself!

HC: If you can go back to freshman year and change anything, what would you change?MS: I would have spent more time on campus instead of going home so much. That would’ve let me to create better friendships and bonds with people sooner rather than later.

HC: Most memorable Scranton experience?MS: It would have to be when my family came up during my sophomore year for parents’ weekend. It was nice to spend time with my parents here in Scranton and show them around. We went downtown, enjoyed ourselves, and it really made Scranton feel like home having my family here with me.

HC: Favorite movie?MS: Trainwreck or Silverlinings Playbook

HC: Favorite TV show?MS: Prison Break

HC: Favorite food?MS: Mashed Potatoes or tacos

HC: Favorite season?MS: Fall

HC: Any bad habits?MS: Shopping. Keep me away from any and all stores!!

Straight from Central New Jersey, yes it does exist, Sarah is a senior biology major at the Univeristy of Scranton. When she's not studying, she enjoys rowing for the U, training for marathons that she forces herself to do, and having the college experience with her friends. Her favorite Starbucks drink is a venti iced coffee, black, because she likes to live dangerously. She's an owner of two goldfish whose names are Brandi and Bacardi, and she loves all things America. Xoxo
Samantha is an East Coast girl from Pennsylvania with a New York City attitude and a Florida mindset. Her shopping habits are contagious; she has inherited them from her mom (they say mother knows best, right?). Samantha is a University of Scranton senior majoring in Strategic Communication with a minor in Business. She is the Campus Correspondent of Her Campus Scranton, which she co-founded in September 2014 with her best friend, Elise.
