Get Involved

Join a club or try a new sport. College is a time to explore who you are in and out of the classroom, so pick up a paint brush or join an intramural team. It’s a great way to make the most of your college experience and meet new people! Most campuses also offer activities that you may otherwise never have the opportunity to try like a mountain sports club or spiritual retreats. Getting involved on campus can allow you to meet new friends and try new things!

Keep Your Room Clean

With the busy schedule that most first year students have, it’s easy to procrastinate when it comes to cleaning your room or doing your laundry. When you schedule it into your week, your room will stay clean and clear of old coffee cups and water bottles. A clean room is so important to facilitate a good night’s sleep and a general feeling of calmness. At the same time, make sure your room feels like your room. Add pictures, tapestries, and pillows to make it feel like your home away from home.

Make a New Friend

While you may have made friends with the girls you live with, or the people in your classes, but there are so many other people on campus! Maybe you’ll meet your new best friend in the line for coffee or at a table sit in the student center. Take the risk and talk to someone new!

Make Memories

The first semester flies by and before you know it, you will be a senior in college, looking back on the good old days of freshman year. Take lots of pictures with your friends as a way to remember the times you’ve had. The Fujifilm Instax Mini is a super-fun camera to take cute Polaroid-style pictures with!

Take Care of Yourself

You have three more years to stress about school. Stay calm and enjoy the transition into college life! Take some time for yourself with tea and a face mask. Maybe try a free yoga class on campus or a guided meditation. Good physical and mental health is key to a successful college career!

Learn How to Budget

Budgeting is an important skill for college students, especially when loans and tuition are involved. Take an online Skillshare course to learn how to budget and save money for the important things in life (like coffee … coffee is always important).

Take Advantage of Student Discounts

Maybe your college offers discounts to coffee stores and movie theaters, or maybe they offer trips to museums and different cities. There are also many companies that offer student discounts like Express, American Eagle, and Spotify!

Get the Most Out of Your Meal Plan

First year students pay a lot of money for unlimited meal plans. Try to save extra money by using those meal plans instead of eating out.
