1989 (Taylor’s Version) is coming out on October 27, and while I am so excited for that album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) has always been my favorite. So, before we enter this new era, let’s debrief the Speak Now Era by each song.
“Mine (Taylor’s Version)”: The first Taylor Swift song I ever heard and came to love. I can remember running around my house as a young girl screaming this song. Of course, I didn’t know anything about relationships and love, but I was obsessed. I’m still obsessed with this song to this day.
“Sparks Fly (Taylor’s Version)”: The vibes coming from this song are unmatched! This song perfectly describes what it feels like to see that person for the first time that you have a crush on.
“Back to December (Taylor’s Version)”: She is so real for writing and releasing this song. Her showing her vulnerability and that she knows what she did and says how she misses that one person and wants to go back to them. I think we could all relate to this feeling all too well.
“Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)”: It is the title track of the album. A classic Swiftie song. Listening to it every time leaves me speechless, mainly because I am screaming it so loud. I would be Taylor in this song if my boyfriend and I do not end up together.
“Dear John (Taylor’s Version)”: This one is taking a stab right to the chest. I don’t think there has ever been a time that I have listened to Dear John that I haven’t sobbed and had mascara run down to my face.
“Mean (Taylor’s Version)”: Another song I used to scream in my living room and have a choreographed to dance to that my parents would have to watch. All I could say is that you will be bigger and better than the person who continuously puts you down.
“The Story of Us (Taylor’s Version)”: This song describes some of my past middle school relationships, so it hits home a little hard. All I can say is “next chapter.”
“Never Grow Up (Taylor’s Version)”: I have no words! All the emotions flood through. Especially listening to Taylor’s Version, you can hear the emotion in her voice now that she is older.
“Enchanted (Taylor’s Version)”: This is the song that turned my boyfriend into a swiftie so I will forever be in love with this song. I think I would have to deem this my favorite song ever! So, if my boyfriend is reading this, here is our favorite line “it was enchanting to meet you.”
“Better than Revenge (Taylor’s Version)”: Again, she is so real for this song. This is the kind of song that you blare in the car with the windows down, singing at the top of your lungs. As for the lyric change, I love how it shows her maturity. Really, I don’t think anyone could be better at revenge than Ms. Swift.
“Innocent (Taylor’s Version)”: Innocent is a great song to listen to process feeling about an incident, when you feel the need to decompress. I take this song to be as she was trying to reflect forgiveness and wrote it as a way of reflection of moving on after an incident.
“Haunted (Taylor’s Version)”: Haunted is about feeling of the person that you are in love with and how you are able to feel them fading away and slowly exiting your life. This feeling is awful, you know the worst is about to happen and as Taylor says, “Come on, don’t leave me like this.”
“Last Kiss (Taylor’s Version)”: The ideal post breakup song! Last kiss is all about reminiscing about all the lasts with someone. The worst this is not knowing you were doing all of your lasts with the person you love. You feel all the sadness and memories of that person when listening to this song.
“Long Live (Taylor’s Version)”: Another song in my top five! This one makes me think all about the fun nights back under the Friday night lights, cheering for my home team. My favorite line is: “Tell them how the crowds went wild, tell them how I hope they shine.”
“Ours (Taylor’s Version)”: This one tells us all to stay true to who we are and not let the hardships and the downfall of society ruin what feels good for us.
“Superman (Taylor’s Version)”: Superman is for all the girls that love a guy from afar and wants to tell him how she is madly in love with him.
“Electric Touch (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)”: I love this one as well. It shows the anticipation of meeting someone new, and not knowing if this will be your greatest love or your biggest heartbreak. I get chills every time I think about my first date with my boyfriend, and thinking this is either going to go well, or I am going to get my heart broken.
“When Emma Falls in Love (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)”: Fun fact, my best friend’s name is Emma. So, anytime I hear this song I immediately think of her. My favorite line is when it says, “…between me and you, sometimes I wish I was her.” I admire my best friend so much and I do wish I was her; she is sunshine in a person and loves the way that everyone should be able to experience.
“I Can See You (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)”: Taylor was feeling scandalous with this one and let me tell you I am not mad about it! Another one of my favorite songs to scream in the car with the windows down.
“Castles Crumbling (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)”: This song shows a metaphorical castle crumbling. How everything that is held on a pedestal is crumbling like things such as pride, regret, and isolation.
“Foolish One (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)”: I am sure we all know this feeling too, that one sided love. The constant trying to convince yourself that the other person will eventually match your energy and love. Hence making yourself feel “foolish.”
“Timeless (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)”: I already picked this one out as my wedding song (definitely not getting married for another ten years), but how could I not! This song is the old-time love that we all secretly love. How could anyone not say that they wouldn’t want to be with their significant over in every lifetime?
