Autumn is the time of leaves.

The warm cinnamon red, honey crisp yellow, and spiced pumpkin orange leaves are the crux of what makes autumn, autumn. These vibrant leaves you see, are not simply leaves. These leaves are the symbol of the impending change to come.

The once lively green leaves transcend into the incredible colors of fall: red, orange, and yellow. This drastic change in color represents the imminent change to come.

I like to view these changing leaves as a metaphor for the world we live in. Change can be quite sudden and severe, but its change itself that creates beauty in the end.

Beautiful things, like the brilliant autumn leaves, take time to form. After the sweltering summer these leaves are worn down and lose their green pigment. But this loss transcends the leaves into something even more exquisite.
Every change we endure in our lives creates something exquisite.

Broke up with your significant other…you get to fall in love with yourself all over again.

Moving to a new place…you get to immerse yourself in a new culture.

Going away to college…you get to taste true independence and freedom.

Change can be quite frightening, but it something we should greet with open arms as it is an inevitable part of life. Without change we would be stagnant and humdrum human beings. It is the changes we face that cultivate us into the person we are supposed to be.
