5 Things Skinny Girls Are Tired of Hearing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

Recently in social media, there have been many empowering movements for voluptuous girls. I love this, trust me. If I could have a little more curvature myself, I’d take it in a heartbeat. However, this can sometimes come off in a manner that is against the petite girls. (Ex: Megan Trainor says to be all about that base and no treble.) So I’ve been thinking lately… where is the positivity for my fellow “skinny” chicks?!!?! Having been teased for being “anorexic” in 5th grade simply due to my natural lean stature, I think it is time to address some things I am sick of hearing.

1.  “OMG. You are sooooo skinny.”Thank you. And you have a nose and eyes.

2. Referring to us as any term such as, but not limited to: string bean, stick, twig, etc. This is just not a compliment.

3. “You need a cheeseburger or a steak!”I was about to go eat one, thanks.

4. “Oh *insert name here*, you look too thin.”I get this normally after an illness that ended up taking some pounds off me. Be careful with wording, because this is really hurtful, especially after a stressful time. I hope I don’t always look sick!?

5. “You’re so lucky.”Ever consider that maybe we’d like a little more meat on our bones? Remember, everyone wants what they can’t have.

Moral of the story is that we are all beautiful. We have to love, respect and admire everyBODY. Plain and simple. :-)
