Sneakers are the shoe of choice for many women these days. With comfort and style, you can’t go wrong with a good pair, especially at a campus like SCAD Savannah where everything is far apart and parking is impossible to find. I spoke to local sneakerhead and assistant manager at Footlocker, Ian DeLisle, to find out what people are buying in Savannah.

HC: What have you seen women gravitating toward in sneakers lately?

IAN: The female customer has been interested in runners and sought after street wear designs such as the Adidas NMD, Adidas Stan Smith, Nike Rosche and Puma Creepers. Earth tones have been really popular like olives, tans and burgundies.

HC: What are the most comfortable shoes you carry?

IAN: The Adidas Ultra Boost, which is particularly popular in menswear. After I bought my first pair of Ultra Boost, I can’t wear anything else to work because they are so much more comfortable than anything else on the market, and I’m on my feet all day.

HC: Are there any brands that you think will take off soon?

IAN: Adidas has always been a front runner in the shoe market but since last summer they have gained in popularity and have been dominating the market. Saucony has been making a comeback. With a low price point and high quality, you can’t go wrong.

With Ian’s opinion in mind, here are some strong sneaker trends that will have you looking trendy while keeping your comfort levels high.

The All White Sneaker

The all white sneaker has been popular for a while, but it’s trendy for a reason. White goes with anything and it is bright and crisp which instantly makes any outfit look cool and modern. The only downside is keeping them clean so make sure you protect them with a sneaker spray before you wear them. Some of my pics for the white sneaker are Adidas Stan Smiths, Nike Roshe and High Top Converse.

Creepers/ Platforms

In December of 2015, Rihanna was named the creative director of Puma’s women’s collections. FENTY by Rihanna was a hit especially her iconic shoe, the creeper. This has started the creeper/platform trend for sneakers. Unfortunately, the FENTY Creepers are already sold out. Here are some other options that have a similar cool look: Puma Platforms, J slides Parker Platform, Kendal & Kylie Tyler Platform. The platform is great because it adds height and elongates your body without the discomfort and instability of heels.

Metallic Details

A full metallic shoe can sometimes be a little overwhelming, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the metallic trend altogether! Sneakers with metallic details are still fun and add a pop to your look without taking over your outfit. Good options are Adidas Silver Superstar, Ted Baker London Lace Up and Puma Gold Platforms.

Laceless Sneakers

Sick of tying your shoes? Not a problem anymore. Laceless shoes are a huge trend that also happens to make life a little easier. Slip on sneakers and velcro fastenings are the most common ways designers have been ditching laces. Convenience is key, but eliminating the laces takes away some of the bulk and makes the shoes look super sleek. My pics are Vans Classic Slip Ons, Nike Sock Dart, and Adidas by Raf Simons.
