One of my favorite aspects of Savannah is the food. There are so many local eateries that I enjoy trying for the first time or going back to for the delicious flavors. It seems like my sweet tooth keeps growing—whether it’s after class, a break from homework or a walk around Downtown—there’s always an opportunity to grab a sweet treat. Here are some of my favorite spots:

Byrd’s Famous Cookies

213 West St Julian Street

I’d always pass this store when I was in City Market and finally decided to go inside this summer. I don’t know why I waited so long—because I love these bite-sized cookies. There are over fifteen flavors, so there’s something for everyone. Be careful when sampling the cookies because you may fall in love with every flavor!

Top selling flavors: Georgia Peach, Key Lime and Scotch Oatmeal

Personal favorite flavor: Almond Shortbread

Leopold’s Ice Cream

212 E. Broughton Street

We all scream for ice cream—especially when it’s as delectable as Leopold’s. October’s specialty flavors are Pumpkin Spice and Cinnamon. I tried them both and ended up getting a scoop of Cinnamon for its creamy spice-like flavor. Leopold’s is a great motivator when you’re studying at Jen Library or seeing a movie at Trustees Theater.

Marché de Macarons (Maison de Macarons)

42 Abercorn Street

These delightful French treats are great to grab on the go. Pick up one—or a few—and they’ll satisfy a sweet craving without overwhelming your taste buds. Flavors are limited, so be sure to stop by early in the day for the best selection.

Personal favorite flavor: Blackberry Lavender

Savannah Candy Kitchen

318 West St Julian St

You simply can’t go to Savannah Candy Kitchen without sampling a praline. I’m guilty of going in for a sample and leaving with a full box of original pralines. The aroma of the shop takes over my senses and leads me straight into making a purchase. The majority of the candy is made fresh throughout the day—including caramel apples and Halloween Rice Krispie treats which are perfect treats for fall.

Sweet Carolina Cupcakes

38 Whitaker Street

What I love about this cupcake shop is how diverse the flavors are. The shop rotates flavors every day—offering new selections for customers. The cupcakes are cooked to perfection and topped with plenty of delicious frosting. Check out the menu to make sure there’s a flavor (or two) that interests you.

Personal favorite flavor- Sweet Carolina (Their signature Pink Velvet Cake)

Zunzi’s 2

9 Drayton Street

Besides Zunzi’s obviously delicious sandwiches, they have a hidden gem: their brownie cake. Served warm with a scoop of ice cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup, this cake is simply too yummy not to be recognized. Order a small and share with a friend.

I hope many of you enjoy these sweet treats as much as I do. Please share with me some of your favorite spots so I can start indulging too.
