Maria is originally from La Paz, Bolivia. She is described by others as kind-hearted, hard working, and an amazing human. Maria is a 22-year-old industrial design major. She is obsessed with her puppy Rory and a lover of all red wines; especially cabernet. Currently, she would not like to comment on her relationship status (love that response). Maria is absolutely one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She puts others before herself, always. She has an energy about her that is undeniable, and energy does not lie.

Being from out of the country, I had to ask how she ended up at SCAD. The story is simple; she realized her love for design while in Italy (this girl has traveled more than I can keep up with). At first, architecture was what drew her to design, but she realized she wanted to do more than just create spaces. After learning about industrial design, she Googled ‘best industrial design schools in america’ and found SCAD. Knowing she’d eventually have to finish her degree at the Savannah campus, Maria started at SCAD Atlanta so she could experience both cities.

Thriving on competition, Maria puts all her energy into her projects and I can honestly say she is going to do amazing things in the design world. I’m a big fan of ending with a quote and tonight, Maria gave me a new one that I fell completely in love with: “lo vivido nadie me lo quita.” Although the translation is nowhere near as beautiful as the original version, it basically means “what you have lived so far, no one can take that from you.”
