Best Oscar Red Carpet Dresses 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCAD chapter.

How many of you only watched the Oscars to see the beautiful Red Carpet dresses? The Academy Awards are not only notorious for their films, but also the elegantly dressed celebrities!

I wouldn’t consider myself an expert on fashion, but I know for a fact that it’s fascinating to see all the unique gowns. With that being said, I’m going to share my opinion on the best Red Carpet dresses from this year’s Academy Awards.

(Spoiler: White and glittery dresses were a pretty common theme this year).

1.  Brie Larson – in Oscar de la Renta and Neil Lane Diamonds

Larson really shows that the most simple dresses can be the most beautiful. By pairing this gorgeous, tight-fitting black gown with red lipstick, she creates an iconic look, that will never go out of style. The ruffled train at the bottom gives the look a touch of sass, without overdoing it. This gets an A+ in my book!

2.   Emma Stone – in Givenchy Couture

Stone looks like she knew she was going to win the Oscar for Best Actress. She looks confident, yet modest. This golden, Great Gatsby-inspired dress truly compliments her ginger hair and lip color. The gown features just the right amount of sparkle and shine. Just like Emma Stone, this dress is a winner!

3.   Viola Davis – in Armani Prive

Davis looks stunning this red gown! The straps around the neck are unique to many of the other Red Carpet dresses, which is why the design stands out. The flowing train in the back also makes a prominent statement. In this dress, Davis is the queen of Fabulous!

4.   Nicole Kidman – in Armani Prive

In terms of fashion, Kidman can do no wrong! Most women with pale skin and light, blonde hair could not rock a nude dress, but she is killing it! The nude tone makes her deep, red lipstick stand out that much more. Not to mention, the spiral pattern on the gown is elegant, without being too extravagant. This dress will definitely go down in history.

5.   Chrissy Teigen – in Zuhair Murad

This list wouldn’t be complete without featuring Teigen’s dress. Her and John Legend were definitely the power couple this year, but Chrissy Teigen doesn’t need a man by her side to look amazing. The long, sparkling shear sleeves are unique, and give the white gown an extra hint of elegance.

6.   Hailee Steinfeld – in Ralph and Russo

How could anyone forget about Hailee Steinfeld? Everything about this dress is so different from any other gown featured, from the neck line to the floral pattern. She looks like a sophisticated fairy princess, and I mean that in the best way possible.

7.   Auli’i Cravalho – in Rubin Singer

Last, but certainly not least, is Auli’i Cravalho. The Moana actress looks DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! This strapless, white gown mixed with accents of gold detailing creates a timeless look. And did I mention that Cravalho is only 16 years old?! Let’s just say this definitely won’t be the last Oscars ceremony she attends!

This list is a great example that you don’t need a colorful, overly decorated dress to look amazing.
