A Poem to Puerto Rico

You still have that bright blue I used to dip in,

The pinks and yellows of the houses I used to sit around in.

The way the sun graced my skin,

You still have all the places I’ve been.

The smell of bread and coffee at the morning rush,

And the salty waves when they hit and brush.

Friends and family are still there,

Untouched you left them there, please make them hear

The Sunday music in the plaza

Where everyone’s casa was tu casa.

You’re still the island of enchantment,

The one who had the birds chirping on my window apartment.

A small island in the Caribbean,

That still has all its colors in.
