Everyone has those moments. Those moments when they are overwhelmed that they just want to give up. Believe me, I feel that way fifty percent of the time. This is why it is important to put down whatever you are doing and do something that you love. This is the ability to perform self-care.

Self-care is more than a thought; it is a practice. When you have those days when you are feeling stressed, it is important to stop and do things to help you become the best version of yourself. It does not matter who you are as an individual, everyone deserves some time dedicated to themselves.

One of the biggest reasons that people are successful in life is because they put in the effort to conduct self-care. It is known that the more you take a break, the better your work will be. Once you take a break from what you are doing, you come back to it with a clearer mindset and the energy to take on the obstacles that lie ahead of you. Kaylee Crockett, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist at the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UAB states in a self-care article, “It can help prevent illnesses from occurring or recurring, and it builds our capacity to handle stress and recover from adversity.”

There are many ways to perform self-care whether it is taking a walk on a beautiful, sunny day or kicking your feet up and reading your favorite book for the 100th time, Options like these can calm your mind and help you relax. It is viewed that if you perform self-care, you will not only feel better physically but also emotionally. If you are struggling to find something to do that makes you happy, try new things! I know one of my favorite things to do for self-care is powering off my phone and spending time with my friends. When I am away from all the stresses that are going on in my life, I realize how much more I can be in the present and enjoy what life has to offer. Another thing I like to do to relieve stress is listen to my favorite music. Whatever you choose, choose something that you want to do, not because it is a trend, but because it will benefit you.

So, if you feel like you cannot face those challenges today, that is okay. Put that energy into doing something and instead of worrying about it, have fun doing it. It will be one of the best decisions that you have ever made in your life.
