Transitioning Back Into The Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SBU chapter.

Transitioning back into school from a long summer break can be an experience in the making. It can be liberating to experience life without your parents telling you what to do, but emotional because you are starting a new chapter in your life. However, if you are happy, sad or nervous for the semester to start, you should always be prepared. Here are some tips and tricks whether you are a returning student or new to the college experience:

  1. Make a list of anything you NEED to help you for the semester.

I find myself doing this all the time, but do you ever find yourself saying “I need (fill in the blank)”? Then, when you get to the store you only remember a few things but, get distracted by things you want, get to checkout and realize you spent almost $200. It’s okay I am a shopaholic too. By creating a list and adding things you need when you run out of them, you are more efficient and can save your money.

  1. Pack your bag and set out your clothes out the night before class.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry, so just in case your alarm fails to wake you up and you late to class, it’s best to have your outfit planned. By having everything ready for you it can cut down your time getting you out the door faster.

  1. Have FUN but MANAGE your time wisely.

It’s college. We’re all going to go out and have fun. But you should always travel in a group, be safe and make sure you finish any work in advance. By doing these things you get your work done early allowing you to have more free time. Lastly, you’ll get to have more fun and stay safe.

As an honors student of St. Bonaventure University, it is my objective to pursue a career that will complement my passion for working with people, my dedication to exceeding goals, and my motivation to innovate. The industries that I hope to make a difference in are fashion, media, and business.
