My little sister is about to turn fifteen, and I seriously cannot believe it.
She is starting to look and act so old, and I just can’t handle it. Recently, I have been going through my photos because my iPhone storage is getting full, and I have come across so many of my sister when she was younger. In all of them, she looks like a baby. I see her little gap-toothed smile that she doesn’t have anymore because of her braces, and it’s just so cute. Looking at her now, I can barely recognize that gap-toothed smile, but she has grown into a beautiful young girl.
When we were growing up, we were always told that we were twins; I would always just brush it off and say that we didn’t look alike. But now that she is in her teen years, I really see myself in her. Not to sound self-centered, but she really is starting to look like my twin.
She just started her freshman year of high school, and I honestly am really sad. To me, she is still in elementary school. My baby is now in high school!
She doesn’t play with dolls anymore, watch Bluey, or just be that crazy little girl who would always make me laugh. She is really turning into a young woman (but seriously, please stay being that crazy little girl). While writing this, I can’t help but think of all the great memories that we have together, like playing on our trampoline, having photo shoots, or making her be my servant for the day as a game. (I really miss that one.) But she no longer wants to do any of that anymore, which is okay, and I have accepted that she will no longer get me a snack whenever I ask for one.
I am just so proud of her; I’m actually starting to cry writing this. She just made the Junior Varsity field hockey team. Which I am so happy about. I never was into sports when I was younger, or now… but I am so glad that she gets to experience something that I always wanted to be a part of. I used to complain so much about having to drive her to practices or the gym over the summer, but I was always happy that she was working so hard for what she wanted. I would happily drive her anywhere so she could fulfill her dreams.
If she reads this, she probably won’t believe all of the nice things I have to say about her, because majority of the time we are always fighting, but I am truly so proud of her and so happy that I am her older sister and built-in best friend. But stop making me feel so old.
