They Sang This On ‘Glee’!: Ranking My Favorite Glee Couples

The announcement of the Glee reboot has been all over social media, and I think I speak for a large community of “gleeks” when I say I am over the moon about the announcement. That being said, though, I am not so sure that the new reboot will ever do justice to the cinematic masterpiece that is the original series. So, in light of me recently reminiscing about one of my favorite shows, I want to give a ranking of my favorite Glee couples.

5. Mike and Tina

Ugh. I was always really rooting for Mike and Tina. If I am being honest, I was so disappointed when I watched her end up with Artie. I love the way that Tina supports Mike’s dream of being a professional dancer, while Mike always keeps Tina levelheaded. I felt that they were relatively unproblematic during their relationship, and I especially enjoyed the rare moments fans got to see them perform a duet.

4. Jessie St James and Rachel Berry

Unpopular opinion: I thought they were really cute together. Since Rachel couldn’t end up with Finn, I was happy she ended up with Jessie. I felt like Jessie and Rachel really understood each other’s need for fame and success in the show business industry. I also think that their voices on the show were so beyond powerful, especially when put together. While I didn’t like how Jessie humiliated Rachel during their breakup, his growth as a character while he chased after her throughout the rest of the show was rewarding to see.

3. Kurt and Blaine

I think that Kurt and Blaine are adorable together. Blaine always seems to be the only person who can comfort Kurt in his various times of crisis. I also thought it was sweet that Kurt was interested in Blaine for so long before they finally got together. The couple always supports each other’s dreams, like when Blaine landed the role of Tony in West McKinley High School’s production of West Side Story instead of Kurt, and Kurt was happy for him anyway. Honestly, their breakup episode upsets me every time. I felt the cheating was a little out of character for Blaine, but I was so happy to see that they did, in fact, end up together.

2. Brittany and Santana

Another couple that I think fit so well together. Throughout the show, so many of the other characters would pick on Brit because she was “dumb,” and not once did Santana do that. They always push each other to be as great as possible, and always seem to find one another again no matter how much time has passed. I think it’s sweet that they started off as friends, and eventually evolved into something so much more than that. While I admire their characters individually, I think they are certainly better together.

1. Finn and Rachel

My all-time favorite couple of the show by far is Finn and Rachel. I think that they balance each other out so well, and sang some of the best duets on the show. Finn was always supportive of the undeniable talent that Rachel brought to the Glee Club, even when their classmates did quite the opposite. Rachel always pushed Finn to do more than he ever thought he was capable of doing, and always believed he would be amazing. Their chemistry throughout the show was also amazing, and it’s no surprise considering the actors were in an off-screen relationship as well. I love that, despite their differences, they always brought out the best in each other.

While I am excited to see the reboot of Glee, I know in my heart that nothing can ever replace the original show. These couples and their storylines will be so hard to replicate, but I am keeping my expectations high for the new reboot anyways. Until then, though, I plan to continue to rewatch the original and fall in love with my favorite couples again and again.
